Yeah, I did think of that. Asus are much better I've heard. What about if I can get the Acer from the Argos outlet for £260? Would you take a punt on it for that price?
That's for you to decide, I personally wouldn't. When it comes to laptops I'd take reliability over a 'punt' every time, even more so when buying for a parent who'll be blaming you when it goes wrong lol

This is a real steal here. If any of you are looking for the more powerfull laptop for £300 I came across a I7, 4GB of RAM and 250GB HDD and 15.6" screen, the only downside is it has a 45 min battery.

    ebay[DOTcoDOTuk]/itm/Dell-Studio-1557-Intel-Core-i7-250GB-HDD-4GB-RAM-Windows-7-Laptop-33352-/350818003351?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item51ae61e997

because I'm new I am not allowed to post link. just change the bit where it says [DOTcoDOTuk] to .co.uk and put www. at the start of the address

This is not the place for second hand stuff with next to no warranty. It's already three and and a half years old! Certainly no 'steal'.
  • I am looking for a lappy that is 17" as mine has died. Hardware failure means it is time to go to the big laptop shop in the sky!

I don't have access to the internet at work (apart from a few selected sites - like this one!).

Can someone recommend one for me? I do MEAN recommend. I appreciate that I can see various prices around the internet (when not at work!), but I would like someone to be able to say: "this one is a good one".

    Thanks in advance.

Hardware failure? More details perhaps? Make and full model number?

    Budget for new laptop?
  • I am looking hopefully around the £350-£400 price bracket for a laptop.

I use(d) my laptop for web programming and online gaming (poker), so being able to have many windows at the same time is important - hence the 17" screen.

I don't know the details of my old lappy I'm afraid.

DELL Outlet will have a few starting from £270 or so.
  • Thanks ND.

I know, that's why I'm trying to get something not totally poo!

I went for a Lenovo B590 in the end. Core i3, 2.4GHz, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, should be more than adequate.
    Dry January: 31/31 days. :T
