Thanks. I don't have much time for this, unfortunately. Not going to be that picky, because basically whatever I get will probably be loads better than what I'm used to.
I imagine I need to buy a wireless adapter too? Have the router from my old PC.
No, all modern laptops have Wireless capability. Which Router? Does it have wireless capability?0 -
Yes, sure. Used it with my old PC. Not sure what it is - at work now!0

I’m buying a new laptop as an upgrade from my 8 year old desktop, and I’m getting a little baffled with all the available options. I’ll be using the laptop for internet browsing, movies/catch up TV (both on laptop and connecting to TV), producing docs like word/excel.
A colleague has advised that I should get the fastest processor in my budget. I’ve got £400 max to spend.
I like that John Lewis offer 2 years guarantee and I saw this Toshiba

to my limited understanding it’s got a fast enough processor and what I’m looking for but I’ve never had Toshiba products so unsure if they’re decent product??
Also saw these two. Would these be adequate for my needs?

None of the above for me. At that price point, I would be looking for either an i3 Third Gen processor or a laptop with a dedicated Graphics card.0 -

There's me thinking that after wading through the jargon, I'd narrowed down my search somewhat :undecided
thanks for your advice NiftyDigits, I'll maybe do a bit more research.Wine is made to be drunk, I am drunk, therefore am I wine?0 -
Hi all
Could anyone please advise me whether this laptop is suitable for my DD who would use it mainly for browsing the web, gaming etc?

If not, are there certain specs which I should be looking for?

It would be internet gaming but not that much really. It would be used mainly for browsing.

Well it'll do the job but it'll be pretty slow, especially with anything particularly intensive or multitasking, due to the weak processor and low RAM (though the latter is upgradeable). But then it is only £250. How old is she? If were talking early/pre teen it's probably enough. If she's late teens and looking to make use of it for several years she'll probably want more.
Ok, I'll keep looking then. She's 17 so she usually has more than one webpage open at a time (social networking, browsing etc) so wouldn't want anything too slow (which is why she never wants to use my antiquated PC!). What processors should I be looking for? Our budget is up to around £300.
