I need a new laptop and was looking at the samsung or axus mentiomed here at pc world...their £200 reward package makes it interesting..has anybody tried to get money back? Do you we will get it? As without it, its a bit outof budget (the samsung one). Thanks a lot.A friend is a present which you give yourself (R.Stevenson)

In the market for a new laptop to replace my very slow old one. Looking to spend around £350 and been reading the threads on here. Found the Acers below (all i5 processors). What do people think of Acers? Which of these is the best?

My use would be general browsing, downloading and the odd game...

Otherwise this DELL INSPIRON Q15R 640GB INTEL I3 DUAL CORE 2.2GHZ SWITCH LAPTOP - REFURB is nice for £279.99.
Contrary to the description , it will be as good as new and have the same warranty conditions as a new machine.
Though of course, you have missed out on the three year warranty with accidental damage.
£14 more now Blink and it is gone.0 -

I'm sure there have been an ample amount of worthy machines shown here already.
Well thanks for your reply but on the last page a few people have commented that their is no issue with refurbs and they would recommend them. Also the page the link takes you to has a number of machines for £350 which I thought sounded fairly reasonable given that they have i5 processors?0 -

Not all 'refurbs' are alike.
The Pentium B950 machine is more than up to the task. It also has HDMI, Bluetooth etc.
It also has exactly the same warranty as a new machine and will be in 'as new' condition.
Don't waste your money just because someone has little or no idea of what they are suggesting.
You can pay the extra for the DELL, but you really don't need to do so.
Paying extra for a 'new' machine won't bring you any extra benefit.
If you receive one that is less than perfect, you can return it within seven working days for a full refund.
I bought the Toshiba for my mum. It was 'as new'. I've bought a few machines from them, and all but one still had the original plastic stuck to it.
DELL machine has sold out anyway.
Well now I am confused as the 'refurb' post was one of yours??0 -

Could it be that you missed a crucial part of what I wrote?

I've highlighted it this time.0 -
Hi Smudger,
I have no idea about refurbs so I cant comment.
I still think this is the best value i5 I have seen...

If you wait a week I can give you a hands on review of the Acer 5749 which I am waiting delivery off... its an i3 though at £330.
I couldnt go with the samsung as the initial outlay is £449
There are loads of laptops in your price point - if you are happu with refurbs then even more.
Sorry forgot to mention - a 3 month warranty is not very good if you are paying £350 - the argos ones all have 12 months.
Just found this discussion on two more sub £400 laptops - one i3 one i5 - you may find it interesting
