  • Hi guys, having read the forums it seems there are some very knowledgeable people on here so any help would be much appreciated!

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, predominantly for streaming films and TV (iPlayer, 4OD, etc) and also for playing some games (Football Manager, Sims, etc). Not really sure these games will require a specialised 'gaming' laptop though?

Pretty flexible with budget, could probably afford up to £400. Happy to go with refurbished or new, really just wondered what the best deal would be?

    Thanks in advance.

Why not take a look at the ACER deal above?
  • Thanks NiftyDigits, that does seem a really good deal. Just wasn't sure if a 'gaming' laptop would mean I'm spending money on spec I don't necessarily need? I read a couple of reviews for the Acer that suggested the processor wasn't as good as some of its rivals. In fairness these reviews were quoting the RRP as £680, which I suppose would mean the standards they are setting would be significantly higher than those expected of a laptop costing sub £350.

The £680 laptop has a different spec.

Nevertheless, you might find a laptop with a better processor, but no dedicated graphics card.
Having dedicated graphics takes the strain off the processor anyway, so you end up with a more 'rounded' machine.
Give it a whirl. If you like it, get the extra warranty in my link. If not, return it within seven working days for a refund.
    They are selling fast.
  • Thanks, after I posted I just noticed the RAM and hard drive specs were different.

I think I'll take your advice and take the plunge. Otherwise I'll spend weeks trying to find a better deal and then end up in exactly the same position I'm in now.

My laptop is about to die, I'm not in a major rush at the moment for a new one but just keeping my eyes out for a good deal.

    I currently have an acer.

I mainly use it plugged in but might start using it more while travelling on the train.

I use it for internet, itunes/music and photos.

I tend to use documents online but sometimes use Word/Excel type programmes.

Someone has said that I3 is the better processor but I'm pretty clueless. Quite like the look of ultrabook but the price tag is more.

Ideally sub £400 but might stretch over if worth it.

    TIA

Mixed reviews, though to be fair it might be just a software problem that may be solved with an updated Driver.
    Worth investigating before returning.
