If I were after a laptop, would be seriously tempted but of course if there are any adverse comments please add them.
Copied from an earlier post as requested. This thread should probably be made sticky if it is for reference?
Uesed to be a 'sticky', but was cut loose. So posting and discussing the 'deals' here keeps it alive.0 -

Hi Timberflake,
I've been looking on Ebuyer for a new laptop, thinking I'd get more for my money. But surprisingly Tesco offer better priced latops with the range of spec you're looking at from Ebuyer.
Looks like we're looking for similar spec vs price and I've been looking at the same ones on Ebuyer.
However, I think I'm going for this one from Tesco direct instead: http://www.tesco.com/direct/hp-pavilion-g6-1154sa-laptop-intel-core-i3-3gb-320gb-156-display/212-8865.prd
The Intel Core i3-370M from tesco is a bit better than all the i3 processors from your Ebuyer list.
Even though the onces from Ebuyer have an extra GB in ram I would rather just increase the ram if needed (though 3GB will be plenty for me) as with tesco I get:- it a bit cheaper
- Clubcard points (we always swap for 3x more in holiday vouchers)
- can be collected quicker from store
- much easier to return for a refund if it's faulty
- HP is probably a slightly better make than Compaq, Lenovo and Acer examples from Ebuyer?
- Better processor
I also save an extra £30 at tesco because my girlfriend works for them so that definitely is my deciding factor. I was just surprised that tesco are actually very competitive and compare better to ebuyer in terms of the price vs spec balance for some of their laptops. Definitely worth checking them out.0 -

This one arrived today, on your advice, and it's perfect! Thank you very much for your help.
Unfortunatly, it's got Windows 7. I've only JUST figured out XP. And now I have to learn it all over again.
So yeah, thanks for the help. It's lovely, and so far does everything I could ask of it!0 -
Hi, not very money saving but due to my existing laptop hard drive failing, I need to buy a replacement laptop tomorrow (have a deadline of Sunday which cannot be moved) which would be used for the following:
-internet browsing
-watching videos/dvds
-using MS Office package
-viewing photos of around 27mb each (in RAW format) which my current laptop struggled with (it was a Sony Vaio VGn-NR32z)
-using interactive white boards/Smart boards as I am a teacher
I have one of these reserved http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/lenovo-g570-15-6-laptop-gun-metal-12377745-pdt.html but there is another version of this one with more RAM but a less good processor. Am I right in thinking it's better to go for the better processor and then add more ram if need be?
Can anyone suggest anything else that I can buy in a shop tomorrow please? Unfortunately I am on a very strict budget of around £350 as I had not anticipated this crisis occurring.
Thanks very much for your help, I have had a very stressful evening!!!0
