So, I was all set to go for the HP Pavilion 1331-ea, but then my card got flagged by my bank's fraud department (because I've just moved and have made a number of large purchases in the last few days) and I couldn't complete the transaction. I'm still waiting for a phone call from the bank to confirm that everything is now okay.
In the meantime, I've popped back to the PC World website and spotted a couple of other contenders.

I've heard that Lenovo is a more reliable brand than HP, so if either of these would offer me the same level of function (and the ability to play some games) then they might be a better option for me.
Any thoughts?
I can get so far with working out what I want and how that relates to the specs, but after a point, it just all gets a bit confusing! Hopefully I'll have made a decision by the time the bank sort my card out0 -
hello again, sucks about your card! anyways quick run through
yes Lenovo are generally seen as a more reliable brand than HP, failure rate is closer to 15% in the first three years comapred to 25% for HP,
out of the ones you looking at specs wise
HP is most suited to games (baring the occasional problem with duel graphics explained previously) with second best processor
Lenovo with AMD chip second best for gaming ability behind the HP but the processor is the weakest of the 3 (although is more than upto the job of normal everyday jobs)
Lenovo with Intel is the worst graphics chipset of the 3 but best processor, - should still be able to run Fallout 3 but it will probably be on low details with no aa/af and could come across the occasional jitterDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Thanks! That's really helpful. I'm going to go for the HP
Fingers crossed for my card working today...
EDIT: It's done! I'm all excited0 -
My daughter needs a new lappy for her Sixth form work and then fingers crossed Uni. She also downloads music and chats to people on line / cam chats etc on skype. No gaming but some photo shop work.
Saw this but worried about it being a refurb?? Anyone any experiences?

hi. You all seems to knowelgable and helpful. My daughter is off to Uni in a month or so and I think she needs a laptop. Obviously I dont want to pay over the odds for what I get but I would rather pay a bit more and get something that is good/will last etc than save a few quid. She isn't a gamer but will want to live stream TV and music as well as skype, surfing etc. Oh! and hopefully write the odd essay! Please would you offer any opinions on what to look for/ suggest any models
Cheers0
