If your old laptop works, the os will have no effect on his MA, backup your data and use the factory restore partition and it will run like new, add the free version of avast for virus protection. a dvd or external hard disk will allow him to backup his work as he goes along.
I imagine it won't run that well even after the Factory Restore. But hopefully it will eliminate any other problems and get them up and running soonest.
She may have some kind of antivirus trial installed once the Factory Restore has taken place. Perhaps Norton. So she will need to remove that with the removal tool before installing Avast.0 -
Sorry for delay...
I think installing XP would be best. I really like XP and use it at work, so that means I'd have some consistency at the very least! How do I go about getting it? I had thought that with the release of Vista and subsequently Windows 7, that it wasn't an option but it's great to hear that it's a viable option.:)
The Factory Restore as suggested by closed may be your quickest option for now.
Later on if you are still not happy with Vista, drop me a PM and I'll talk you through how to revert to XP.0 -
Are there cheap copies of XP to be had (inc. student deals) somewhere? I'm thinking of creating a dual boot system with Win 7 and XP (so I can run things that don't get on with W7 under any circumstances).2021 Targets

Don't forget that if you are running Windows 7 , you can use whats called XP mode , basically a free Virtual PC

That sounds like it would be great but it only works with professional/ultimate versions of Windows 7, not home premium.2021 Targets

Hello there- trying to decide between various laptops. Really could do with some advice- thanks. I make quite a few movies on movie maker, download lots of photos, i-tunes and like to have various things on at the same time. Am drawn to the following -
Acer Aspire AS5742 £399 TESCO 750GB 4 RAM or is it worth upgrading to the next model with 6 RAM for £100 more
- don't mind spending extra if really going to make a difference.
DELL INSPIRON M501R 500GB 4RAm £369 TESCO's
Any thoughts/ other recommendations would be really appreciated.
(I realise this is the Sub £350 powerful laptop thread- wasn't sure where else to ask!)
