hi, does anyone know if u can used the acer 3 yr extended warranty with refurbished tablets from dixons or argos outlet

Perhaps not. Reading the T&Cs may reveal the preclusion of refurbished machines.
Knowing the cr*p that the PC World outlet churns out, I would not want to have to service it either.

After a bit of searching I have found out more about the £50 3yr warranty offered by SaveOnLaptops on most of their systems. More info here: http://technologycover.co.uk/extended-warranty.html but basically it covers normal mechanical failure after the manufacturer's warranty expires, and not any accidental damage cover or battery failure. They say they have a 12 day turnaround time for collecting/returning your laptop.

Thought this might be of interest to others who have been looking on SoL for cheap laptops and like the peace of mind of an extended warranty.

Edit: just noticed the line saying the warranty "...is invalidated if unauthorised persons carry out any alterations and/or repairs". If that means that you can't increase the RAM or replace the HD etc yourself then it's worth bearing in mind.

I've finally decided on the HP Pavilion G6-1195 laptop from Tesco Direct which, with their £50 off deal (ends tomorrow, 14th August), TopCashBack 5.05% and 738 Clubcard points, comes in at under £300. :D

    Spec includes:
    Intel Core i3 processor
    3Gb RAM
    320Gb HD
    Blu-ray (read) DVD/RW drive
    3 x USB 2.0, 1 x HDMI
    Webcam, card reader
up to 5 hours battery life
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Price £369 before £50 discount, TCB and double Clubcard points, and you can collect from a Tesco store for free (handy if you're out at work) or opt to have it delivered for a charge. Also, a Targus laptop bag and mouse (cat. no 207-5782) are available for £13.97 when purchased with a laptop.

Hard (impossible?) to beat for a brand new laptop with blu-ray!

No, it isn't that one. Perhaps there isn't one for the OPs choice.

    Search for model QC169EA

    Hi,
Could someone please check the specs for this laptop and 'approve' or not. Just want the best of everything within my budget of £300.

Is VGA the same as HDMI?
It does not look as if this one has HDMI. But everything else seems good enough for £280 + Quidco.

  • Hi

After reading indebted4u recent post, even I purchased HP pavillion G6-1195 from Tesco. I just received the laptop yesterday. Colours of the laptop are ok (not exceptional) and the PC has been mfg. in China.

    (i) The C drive of the laptop is showing 261 of 284 GB free. Please could let anyone know where is the remaining 23 GB in C drive i.e. on what was this 23 GB used in a brand new, unused laptop?

(ii) The laptop also shows recovery D 1.52 GB free of 13.6 GB. What is this 1.52 GB utilised for?

(iii) Anyone has been able to find a cheap 3 years warranty for this model G6-1195 (QC169EA)? If so, please could you post the necessary link(s)?

(iv) Please could someone post the customer support telephone number of HP?

    Many Thanks.

Disks not supplied and maybe trial version and it is your responsibility to check with the manufacturer

    Brand new/boxed with a three year warranty 1 + 2 manufacturer for £399 less a £100 cashback through HP .

This seems too good to be true - is it? an equivalent spec on the big A was closer to £900+

The bit about "disks not being supplied and maybe a trial version concern me too - should they?

I have never considered AMD processors before and don't know what battery life could be expected - should I worry?

EDIT - CPUBENCHMARK score seems mediocre
