Not sure if 2GB is sufficient now-a-days.. A similar spec laptop with 3GB is available for same price -> http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HP_G62-b32SA_1083654.html

How is this for basic office functions, VERY basic photo editing and storage, iTunes, and internet (but no gaming)?

For those on a tight budget and who don't need a webcam, this Toshiba Satellite C650-1CN for £199.99 inc delivery is nice. De-install some of the unnecessary bundled software to bring it up to speed.

Specs here. Hit F5 to refresh the page if necessary.

CPU Benchmark of 1396 as compared to 723 of the DELL/V160 above. Though the DELL does have a better graphics card.

    Expect 'as new' condition.

    Hi
I came on the forum to try to decide what to buy laptop wise, now I am completely confused, so any reccomendation and where to buy on line or shop, this is what I do with it :most important first

Skype, to speak to my grandaughter, so built in cam and mic needed
    Emails and surfing

My adsl connection is not great, but can not be upgraded, so if anything there makes a difference to downlod speed, then I would like it :)

The price is not the important factor, like at least a 15in screen :o

Dell M301z for £299 seems a steal if you want a 13.3" machine.

Has anyone bought the Acer eMachines E642 which is currently available for £249.99 and is listed on the MSE Cheap Laptops page? If so would you recommend it?

This seems to be a pretty good deal for the things I'm likely to be using it for: surfing, emailing, managing music in iTunes, viewing & uploading photos, occasional iPlayer and using MS Office when working from home.

Do any experts out there think this is a good deal for £250 or are there technical things in the spec which should be avoided:

Processor: AMD Athlon II M340 2.2GHz
    RAM: 3GB
    Hard Drive: 500GB
Optical Drive: DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD)
    Display: Widescreen 15.6" (resolution 1366 x 768)
    Graphics: ATI Radeon graphics (integrated)
Included Software: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    Warranty: One-year manufacturer warranty

    Thanks for any advice,

    James.
