I wouldn't be too excited by having McAfee... personally I wouldn't use it even if they payed me the subscription.

    I second that..

  • Has anyone tried CRS Uk? they have laptops from £179. Dell and Toshiba. I don't need the latest wizzy thing but they do have ones with webcams, so thought maybe a used one would suit my budjet, anyone with suggestions? crs-uk.biz

Is there any reason why someone should?

    They have some strange practices.

For instance; They are selling a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200SE-1F7 which comes with a licence for Vista Business.

Strangely they claim that Windows is not installed on the machine, but they can install XP Professional for you for £24.

Whatever happened to the Vista Business licence, Recovery Discs and the bundled software that comes with this laptop; including Microsoft Works for which CRS wants to charge another £5.99?

It's the same with their other machines. Toshiba machines will automatically install the OS and Drivers on startup, so why do you need to pay £24 to CRS to turn your machine on?

There are enough cheap machines on the market without having to go through that kind of rigmarole to get support for the OS.

£179 plus VAT and apparently no OS does not equal a final price of £179.
  • Any Laptops with Matte Screens?

All the ones I see in the shops have reflective ones, which I will not use!

Thinking about replacing my old 15" lappy with a dual core machine, HDMI out would be nice to have as well, but not essential.[/QUOTE]

I've just bought an Acer Travelmate 5742 and its got a 15.6" matt screen. I'm really pleased, because like you, prefer matt to the glossy screens, and I didn't realise it would be until it arrived. Its got the pentium i3 core, 4GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, webcam, DVD etc. I paid £319 new on ebay, but have seen it for £349 at saveonlaptops (sorry won't let me post a link) or possibly cheaper by shopping around online or buying refurbished on ebay.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
