I don't mind repeat posts (2 posts up) esp. when its a good deal. Should be able to add a 2 years extra warranty, making about £300.

Oops, had looked but not seen!

Have you known Toshiba to accept refurbished laptops under the warranty extension? Also do Toshiba themselves even offer a standard warranty for them?

Says: 'Available for all Toshiba notebooks with a standard warranty'; the warranty with the Argos refurbished is with Argos itself (via D&J Henry) and not with Toshiba.

Unless someone already knows the answers, then you'd only find out after the fact when you put the serial number in to find out if the laptop is eligible.

In response to the laptops details in the weekly email, i just wanted to say that we recently bought the Lenovo laptop; and have been really pleased with it. It seems to be a lot of computer for your money (because the brand name is not so trendy I think? For those who are wondering who Lenovo are, they bought IBM - who I am sure you will have heard of). It's maybe not the most elegant of laptops; but it's a great machine for functionality, power and speed. Our only problem with it is that the position of the "function" and "control" keys are swapped, only a small thing, but meaning where you would use "Ctrl-C" you end up pressing "Fn-C" by mistake.

    1. try closed's thread (linked in post above) if you have some spare time
    2. which model of Toshiba is it exactly
    3. try the Crucial web page which has a "scanner" to tell you what you have and what memory options you can add -> http://www.crucial.com/uk
    4. There's a video on the crucial site to tell you how to add the memory. Its not as difficult as you might think.
    -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbPaR1Ci-Ug

Crucial will refund any memory you buy but doesn't work (for whatever reason).

    Thank you Grumpycrab.

    1.I will give closed's instructions a go - I've printed them....
    2.My model Toshiba Satellite L350D PSLE0E-00600KEN
    3. This model isn't on the crucial site....

I can see in my computer that Vista has 33.3GB free of 55.8 and Data (whatever that is) has 49.7 free of 54.5GB. I don't know if this has any bearing.

I think its this one http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&toshibaShop=false&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes&PRODUCT_ID=150926
And its here at Crucial http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Satellite%20L350D-012
Looks like it already has 2 memory cards (1GB each, 2GB total) so you'd either have to replace one or both if you wanted more. Try Closed's instructions first.

This disk can hold 120GB and its been divided into 2 "partitions":-
    C: Vista 55.8GB and
    D: Data 54.5GB
(they never add up to the full amount!)

Sounds like somebody has divided the disk for you(?) with their intention being that C:Vista is where programs are installed and D: Data is where data (e.g. music, downloads, documents et al) is put. Anyway, plenty of space!

Reliable and fast? I'd look at i3 (anything from i3-380M up) Toshiba, Asus. (Toshiba don't always have HDMI for TV connectivity). Starting at £244 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350467403443&clk_rvr_id=236746904678

For reliability I'd extend the warranty (of any new laptop) to 3 years (if you can afford it.)

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop, Infact It's my second
As a computer I have no complaints.
BUT There after sales and repair service Is the pits, I sent my first Laptop for repair and It took them Three Month and loads of phone calls to get things sorted.
When I phoned them they told me that my waranty was void as the laptop had been opened up. ( NO IT HAD NOT ) they eventualy returned It repaired after the 3 month.

The second laptop was returned with a foult with the sound and a cutout in the lid, They once again tried to tell me that the laptop had been opened and void the Insurance.
I had to lay down the law to them and tell them they had already tried that trick with me with a former laptop and I wasn't falling for It again.
I repeat... A good laptop but repair service GARBAGE !

Thanks for this. Im not sure about getting a refurb though, as I will be sharing with sibling who doesnt will unlikely not want to go for it.

Any ideas about the smaller (13"-14") laptops?
