No internet but at 1p national, 5p moble and 1p international, iCard Mobile looks good.

I have been using a Orange SIM only plan. Got a free £5 topup when I joined but expensive at 12p per minute for UK.

    Thanks :)

    BTW.
for international calls, try one of the VoIP offerings by the Betamax group. Their FastVoIP charges only 0.5p per min to India.
To use with a moblie phone, you need a Wi-Fi connection and a free application such as Fring or MobileVoip
  • For light users there are some great tarrifs -

    UK Landlines/Mobiles - 8p
    UK Text - 4p

    Tesco Lite -

    UK Mobile - 5p
    UK Text - 4p

Thanks for this. icard seems unbelievably cheap. I wonder how long it has been and how long it will last? They use vodafone network for anybody interested in coverage.

As this thread started with ASDA mobile, it's worth noting that they have hiked their charges to 10p a minute AND are charging 10p per minute for voicemail access, which is pretty shocking.

Talk mobile is another provider worth mentioning 8p calls 4p texts

oh, and icard doesn't allow international roaming, which is a bit of a downer...and no internet browsing or picture messages. So just for basic voice calls in the UK...

From 31st May 2011 the prices for Asda's PAYG will increase.
Details of what they are going to start charging are all for the world to see on their website (go to there "tariff" page).
snapshot= 10p per min for phone calls (was 8p) and texts going to be 6p (was 4p). and data has jumped from 20p per MB to 50p per MB .
Although these aren't technically massive- it soon adds up and makes a difference, specially to a low user like myself.

This increase means that GiffGaff will become officially the cheapest (they were basically the same up until this point). So, I'm looking to switch to GiffGaff now.

Its already been discussed at some length https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3144538

Other suppliers match/beat giffgaff text and talk prices but data is temporarily free again on giffgaff.

    Landline 2p/min

icard to icard, free , but ...
"Free calls are limited to ten minutes per call. Each minute after this will be charged at the standard UK fixed line rates. "

    mobile 6p/min

    SMS 5p.

So their prices though good are creeping up, and may well go up in June as well.

...forgot to mention, they don't charge for calls to voicemail either.

I'm switching to them mainly for cheap calls to landlines, should save me a bit over virgin rates!

My wife and I have an icard sim. Poor instructions on how to start making calls. Poor customer service .

You can't just ring 263 and top up you have to call from a landline first and activate the sim by talking to customer service. They give you a password that lets you login to your account and it also activates the sim. Least that's how I think it went. Also depends who you you talk to.

The main problem for me has been the chap I spoke, (foreign call centre by the way), who didn't know about porting the number.

I gave the details and now my old sim is now inactive (asda), as of yesterday and my icard sim doesn't work so I now have no mobile. The icard sim displays their network on my phone but if I try and call I get the de de dah tone repeating.

Called again (spoke to the woman think there's only 2 people there), and they say it will be done in 4 days and they will ring me. They don't know what has happened or why when I eventually got them to understand my point.

I emailed the details to them from their site last night - no reply so far.

I think someone from icard posted here - perhaps they can shed some light.

I think I'm now in limbo. I will have to wait for it to get sorted before I can switch and port my number if I decide to go to another network. Right now giff gaff looks attractive...

I notice mention of Now Mobile in this thread. Does anyone know which network they operate on please? I can't find any mention of it on their website.
