Hi,
Been reading ur diary and it sounds like your in a similar position to me so it has inspired me to start my own documenting my mgr journey - so a big thank you for that! :-)
Was just wondering how u mange to get your OH to agree as I can see this as a problem I will also have as he would much rather buy gadgets/ take holidays than pay off the mortgage!!Mortgage @ 01.06.10 £165,999Mortgage @ 31.10.13 £14,6640 -

Gosh, thanks! That's a real complimentWas just wondering how u mange to get your OH to agree as I can see this as a problem I will also have as he would much rather buy gadgets/ take holidays than pay off the mortgage!!
I'm in charge of the joint financesI think that when I explained how much interest we could save by 'just' oping £50p/m he was up for it, but he's not willing to give up buying lunch for it (£100p/m:eek:) So I budget the household bills as much as poss!
To be honest we have a "discussion" (read small argument) every time he buyes himself a big gadget! Even though I've agreed that he can himself one at Xmas and on his birthdayI just don't get gadgets.
I guess its a compromise. DH is the main earner so I rely on him to put extra in the account and he trusts me to deal with it in the right way.
I couldn't cope without holidays thoughOff to Prague sunday!
P.S.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
Phase 1 - Emergency Fund - Complete :j
Phase 2 - £20,000 Mortgage Fund - Underway0 -
I know what you mean about the holidays!! I have control of the joint finances so I will just have to convince him to pay more into the joint account to cover the overpayments.
I have found some of the calculators on here showing how much you can save by overpaying so will show him those and see how that works!!
We have the same "discussions" over big purchases, but do feel a bit mean as he does work hard so he should get some treats, just why do they have to cost so much:eek:
Have a lovely trip to praguse, we are hoping to go away in May - not a good start to the MFW journey!!Mortgage @ 01.06.10 £165,999Mortgage @ 31.10.13 £14,6640 -

My OH always points out that I buy books and over the year they probably add up to the same as his gadgets! I do have a libary card but sometimes its just not the same
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, completley forgot to say that our new windows are lurvlythey make such a difference to the house and the fitters didn't make a mess at all, they even put dust sheets down everywhere they walked - v.impressed.
