Have you put the heating on yet?

Luckily seemed to have acclimatised to the cooler weather and not feeling the cold in the evenings now.
Will dust off and start using the slow cooker to make a hearty dinner before long0 -
I've not put mine on yet, I'm holding out for as long as possible. I turned my boiler off when I got the last gas bill so don't have hot water either! (I have an electric shower though so I still get a warm wash :-)) I'm aiming for a gas bill with no units used - it's due next month so I only have 3 weeks to hold out for.
I work at home and am sitting here with a vest on, a jumper, a cardigan, jogging bottoms, 2 pairs of socks, a scarf and a hot water bottle on my lap. I may look ridiculous but I'm toasty warm!
Anyway, I wanted to ask: I want a heater for the room I work in, as I don't want to put the heating on for the whole house while I'm working. Does anyone have any opinions on what would be the most cost efficient? I was thinking of either one of those gas heaters where you change the bottles, an electric fan thing, or an electric radiator.
Thanks!0 -
Jenny, we got some electric fans last christmas when our boiler stopped working. I think they were about £7.99 from aldi, they heat the room really quickly so you can turn it off after afew minutes.
My brother and sister are complaining but i'm rooting for my mum to keep the heating off until november. But my brother just enjoys complaining and my sister's idea of a 'jumper' is a light knitted holey thing costing £xx from topshop. It's getting colder outside now but we have a coal fire which keeps downstairs toastie.0 -

Thanks for the tip, Cinny.
Maybe you should suggest thermals to your sister?0 -
I've not had mine on either yet, but usually go to bed early after a hot bath, put my fluffy socks on (how attractive!!) and get into bed under my duvet and blankets. Have been feeling the cold in the mornings but have just layered up and done some fast hoovering to warm up!" Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start now and make a brand new ending. "0

I'm in the same situation, not wanting to heat the whole house in the day, so we've bought electric oil heaters. I find fans stir up too much dust (maybe I should do more hoovering too!). We calculated that a 1KW heater which is switched on for an hour will use one unit of electricity - which on our tariff costs about 12p. (Of course it is on a thermostat, so probably a bit less than that).0

:hello: I may be an oddbod,
but I kind of like it when it's cold outside but we're wrapped up warm in layers or snuggled under our fake fur throw on the sofa.
Of course getting out of a warm bed on a cold morning is pretty awful... ...But I am determined to hold out until it is properly cold before we use the gas fire in the living room, and we don't have any other heating (well.. we also have a heated towel rail - whoopee doo!) so no walking around naked in my house between October and March!

I have had mine on a couple of times but havent set the timer yet
I intend to try and hold off as long as possible:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
We're on a fixed capped tariff so not too worried about cost but it's still staying off for now. I feel rubbish anyway and the first rounds of CH in the Autumn always make me feel all throaty.

It's getting tempting... The problem is though that because it's storage heating I have to figure out the night before if a day's going to be cold enough to need it. And I can only have the warm air blowing out for a couple of hours before it runs out, so I have to guess the right time of day to put it on too. So I'm still holding out, thinking that when it gets really cold I'll appreciate it more, and just digging out blankets and things for the time being.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
