I've gone for the winter duvet and jumpers option. So far so good. I find that my mid-terrace house stays warm until about 8ish. It's so small that just cooking something in the kitchen heats the whole of the downstairs!! I go to bed quite early too because of my job so I'm only slightly cold for a short amount of time. The mornings, however, are a different matter.....O/draft 1Abbey:£1000 Student Loan [STRIKE]£10,825[/STRIKE] £9030 Personal Loan: [STRIKE]£4900[/STRIKE]£4809 Apple Finance: £1000

Well, it looks like this winter may be the calm before the storm.

Wonder what exactly people are supposed to do...
Shocking.... Tough as I was reading it I couldn't help thinking how much energy is wasted without anyone knowing it, for example, having the tele on all day even when your not in the room.
There are always going to be the families who I think artificially put themselves in a poverty situation. For example instead of budgeting for the winter bills they go on holiday that summer. Splashing out and spending 100s on Christmas gifts - something we have put a stop to years ago and agree on £25 each.
People think they deserve a certain life style, with fuel prices rising and the credit crunch biting they are due a nasty shock.0 -

I'm thinking not of the prices rising, but of the shortages. For example turning on the tap to have nothing happen, or flushing the toilet, and there being no sound of it re-filling - as the electric water pumps don't function without electricity.

were holding out as long as possable, we moved back in april from a very poor condition council house, we had to have the heating on almost constantly to keep the damp and draughts down, were now in a much bigger house, but have been benefiting from haveing a big south facing bay window and the heating hasnt been needed atall so far.0

Can't believe its being discussed, its not even slightly cold.
I've still have the windows open and the thin summer quilt and haven't felt cold at all.
Perhaps people have become too used to central heating and their home temperatures being high?Unsecured debt 2008 c £45,000

The heating issue depends on a number of factors:
- Your personal ability to stand the cold - some people have medical issues on top of that
- How insulated your house is
- How damp your house is
- Your local climate
- Babies and old people living in your house
Personally my parents turn up and freeze to death. I do put the heating on for them. I suffer more from the heat - I can stand in bare feet on stone quarry tiles.
But I don't look down on people who can't."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I have had no choice but to put the heating on, or rather other people in the house have been putting it on and i keep turning it off and right down so that it turns itself off anyway. The joys of living in a shared house. I feel the cold more than the other people in our house do, but they'd rather the heating was on instead of them putting on a thick jumper. Wouldn't mind put they only pay a certain amount a month so it doesn't bother them.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

I'll not put the central heating on in an evening until the end of October - if not as far into November as I can last. I'll probably put the fire on in mid-October for a few minutes but it really belts out heat so it'll only be on for 30 minutes max - until then, it's jumpers, trousers, thick socks and cuddle up under a fleecy throw or duvet!
DH gets up at 4am and it's starting to get nippy so the CH is on for 15-20 minutes each morning for him just to take the chill off the air - but it wakes me up while it's on so he can't get away with turning it on for longer:D
