MOT failed Car Parts

Nice to see another well maintained car :A
not bad for a 10 year old car... suspension tends to go about 80,000 miles..
We can check our front pads but who checks their rear brakes apart from MOT day ?
As long as the engine is serviced and in good running I'd say it's worth the hassle...0 -
Honda Civic Auto 1.4i 1998 - R reg.
Does Bonded Suspension Unit means changing complete suspension of shock absorbing?
Also do I need changing brake disc or drum?
Bonded suspension unit could well be a bush in the arm/multi link suspension or similar, but is hard to say without knowing full deatails. The tester would have selected the description of the failure point from a multiple choice menu on his computer, so really depends what they have seen as the closest match to the problem.
Also factor in what 'pattern' parts are available for your car as genuine parts could be pricey. And a test fee of ~£50 so it fair mounts up!
I had 'minor' work to do on my car for its last MOT including 2 tyres, completed all the work myself and used cheapo parts and was still approaching £300.
Pesky cars.....

Could be a bush......... Vaio - not come across this description before - OP should ask the garage what they mean.rubber bush?
with the rest, it depends so much on the car, tyres could cost between £30 & £150.
Re suspension - nothing HAS to be changed in pairs. Especially as we don't know what the 'bonded' bit is..
Forget the lens units - I am telling you - that he needs two orange bulbs that are at most, a pound each!!!
Brakes... could be anything - I'm betting on a handbrake cable

Garage has quoted me £475 parts and labour and I strongly feel they are over charging me. Can someone direct me to only car spare parts website where I can buy these parts and get them fitted by garage.
often a remark that annoys me, how can you strongly feel they are over charging you if you dont even know what they are trying to charge for or what kind of labour time is involved or even what parts are required?...work permit granted!0 -
But you know that it is the orange bulbs.goldspanners wrote: »often a remark that annoys me, how can you strongly feel they are over charging you if you dont even know what they are trying to charge for or what kind of labour time is involved or even what parts are required?

Which is why OP should ask what they mean.... alot of this is gobbledegook - and OP should have already paid the test fee. If they want to charge for a retest - then they are crooks!Genie

Lights and tyres are very basic though, and can be checked in a couple of mins.
If it wasn't for the suspension/brake faults the OP could have saved a retest fee by giving their vehicle a quick going over0 -

If the work is done within 10 working days - then they don't have to charge a retest fee. Our retests are free, whether we do the work or not. Only meanie garages do that.Genie
