Hate to say this, but in a way you deserved elvis86's post, several people here are suggesting that you go to some of the other MSE boards where people might be able to help you (VERY good advice). Yet you've just decided you can't be helped (so won't bother trying)!

Instead of writing excuses here as to why x, y or z won't help, go over to the debt-free wannabe and benefits & tax-credits boards and see if people there can suggest any ways to save money or get more money. Even it's just £5-10 a week you get/save, that's £5-10 which can go to pay off your bills.

Or is it that the only help you want is a new (bigger) council house/flat?

we have seen someone at citizens advice who looked at our incomings and outgoings and said herself we dont have enough in the pot to pay off large ammounts like for last years council tax,so we are trying our best and paying off litlle by little.

CAB can, despite their good intentions, be wrong or offer less than great advice.

People on MSE (particularly DfW and B&TC board) have a breadth and depth of knowledge that your average CAB would kill for.

Seriously, give it a go, you'll only lose some time and might gain a few £.

thats not what i'm trying to do at all!!

Im trying to show the OP that it doesnt seem to matter how overcrowded people are the council seem to be useless in helping!

I said in the post that it was so OP could see that she wasnt in the worst situation and she isnt the only person trying to get a larger house for her family!

    Thanks for your input!!!!!!

How, exactly, are the council useless? Legally, they cannot house your aunt in a property that would create statutory overcrowding, or even not comply with their own overcrowding policy. So, your aunt has created a situation where the only way the council can help is by housing her in a seven bedroom house, at least six of which would have to be doubles. Assuming the usual mix of bedroom sizes, it would more likely be a ten bedroom property! That would necessitate knocking through three decent sized three bed council houses. Perhaps you should scour Sunderland and find three suitable terraced houses that are next to each other and vacant at the same time. That may clarify just who's problem this really is. It's hardly useless when a council cannot do the impossible while the person asking for it does nothing to address their own needs, is it?

i would not ask anyone i know that question not even my own mother.
your question is in very bad taste and just plain rude.

So what you really mean is Yes, I do get lots of benefits but am not going to admit to that because it blows my argument out the window?

If she's not even willing to say what income she has, no one will be able to help.

I still cant get over the woman who had about 10 kids in a four bed house. Thats more than my entire extended family, i feel cramped now living in a one bed with just my girlfriend, I dont know how anyone copes.

Also chocs if you dont give these guys some details about your income/location how do you think they can help you? They are not going to club together and build you a new house

My mum and her 13 siblings were born and brought up in one of these -
.... house consist of room, kitchen, attic, scullery with boiler, sink and w.c. Coal cellars and dust-bins are provided. The size of the kitchens os 17ft. x 14ft. and the rooms are of the same dimensions

I'm not advocating a return to the 'good old days' by the way.
