Are there any other HAs in the area that have lists? Round here there's a confusing array of bits and bobs of HA type companies.... might be more round your way.0

Is writing to David Cameron really going to help? Firstly hes very unlikely to ever read it secondly his input isnt going to help unless its to actually build a new house.
You might have to face facts thats the house you so covet doesnt exist at least not in your area and as part of public housing stock.
I can sympathise that it must be a nightmare 5 people sharing a one bed flat, but you have increased the number of children knowing you were already overcrowded .
I recommend taking the £50 a week you are saving from your child benefit and throw yourself on the mercies of the private renters market.
Or learn to sleep in one big bed like that family in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory0 -

We live in a 2 bed terraced and myself and my husband have the other bedroom, which, admittedly,is larger. We own our home. it is what we can afford. We are grateful to have a roof over our heads to be honest, and non of us whinge about the lack of space or privacy. We just get on with it.
im sorry if you think i whinge about it and we have been getting on with it....for 10 years in fact0 -

we dont save the child benefit anymore as its needed to buy children something they need or it goes towards rent or council tax0 -

i live in a 3 bed semi, and as soon as my 16 year old sons move out, i would love a flat, this house will be too big for me on its own
thankyou very much that is really kind of you to offer to do that i truly am grateful but yorkshire is very very far from where we live,we are not being too fussy about what area we move to but it would have to be at least an hour drive so i can stay close to my family, thankyou again though:)0 -
I apologise if anything along these lines has already been said - I dont have time to read through all of the posts but just wanted to share this with you.
I am not proud of this before anyone goes on and has a rant at me about child benefits ect! This is my aunt and i'm not in control of her life!
My Auntie is under gateshead council (not sure if it makes a difference which council!)
She lives in a 4 bedroom council house.
In this council house is 13people.
My Aunt (40years old)
My Uncle (40years old)
Child 1 (Female) and her son (20years old and 2months old)
Child 2 (Female) (19years ols)
Child 3 (Female) (17years old)
Child 4 (Female) (16years old)
Child 5 (Male) (14years old)
Child 6 (Female) (12years old)
Child 7 (Male) (10years old)
Child 8 (Female) (8years old)
Child 9 (Male) (6years old)
Child 10 (Female) (4years old)
They have 4 bedrooms and one living space (No dining area or other rooms that COULD be made into bedrooms so living room is always used!)
The house is made up like this;
Bedroom 1 (Parents)
Bedroom 2 (16year old and 12year old females - bunk beds)
Bedroom 3 (19year old, 16year old, 8year old, 4year old females - 2 sets of bunk beds)
Bedroom 4 (14year old, 10year old, 6year old males - Bunk beds)
Sitting Room (20year old daughter and her 2month old son)
Now I know this means that the rooms all have the same sex in them but it's still definately classed as overcrowding - this is an average sized council house so every bed is crammed in hence them all sleeping in bunk beds!
I'm not trying to dishearten you but my Aunt has been contesting this situation for the past 3/4years and has got no futher forward - the council will not even offer my 20year old cousin a flat with her son so that she is not living on a settee!
So yes you may be overcrowded but I wouldnt get your hopes up of getting a bigger house through the council!
Like I said before, i'm not proud of this! and by no means am I saying my aunt and uncle haven't got themselves into this situation so pelase refrain to silly remarks (Have they got a telly ect!) ... I'm posting this just so OP can see she's not in the worst situation!:kisses2: 01.03.2014 - Marry the man of my dreams :kisses2:Gorgeous Son born 31/12/2012

thats not what i'm trying to do at all!!
Im trying to show the OP that it doesnt seem to matter how overcrowded people are the council seem to be useless in helping!
I said in the post that it was so OP could see that she wasnt in the worst situation and she isnt the only person trying to get a larger house for her family!
Thanks for your input!!!!!!:kisses2: 01.03.2014 - Marry the man of my dreams :kisses2:Gorgeous Son born 31/12/2012

I have little sympathy for extreme cases of families such as HisDoris's relatives. Most of us stop producing kids once our finances/living accommodation have been sufficiently stretched. What prevents the 19 and 20 year olds in that family getting a room each in a shared house, via the private rentals market? Are they working?
Chocs2010 - have you tried seeking out a 2 bedroom property? Not ideal but clearly an improvement on what you already have.
Haven't read the whole thread so is there a reason why you couldn't look for a property in the private sector ( other than not wanting to give up social housing rights)0
