I'm sorry, but I have little sympathy. It's no surprise that the council "want" their tax and rent. They "want" it off me too, and just about everyone else in the country for that matter (the council tax at least). I'll bet your rent is nowhere near what I'd have to pay for a one bedroomed flat..
Deciding to have a child when you were living in a one bed flat with no possibility of being able to afford to rent privately/buy a bigger place was foolish.
Deciding to have a second child when you were still living in a one bed flat with no possibility of being able to afford to rent privately/buy a bigger place, was very irresponsible.
Deciding to have a third child when you were still living in a one bed flat with no possibility of being able to afford to rent privately/buy a bigger place, was madness.
No doubt every time you thought "the council will have to give us a bigger place now". Well, I for one am glad to hear that this kind of attitude doesn't always pay off, despite what the Daily Mail/The Sun etc would have you believe. You've nobody to blame but yourself.
And you would have escaped my "nasty comments" if you'd left when you said you were going to, rather than coming back bleating about how outrageously unfair it is that you have to pay council tax and rent.;)
Although I agree with most of what you say, you have a really nasty way of saying it dont you?:kisses2: 01.03.2014 - Marry the man of my dreams :kisses2:Gorgeous Son born 31/12/2012

wow, your comments are very telling of the kind of person you are.
i was asked if it would be possible for us to private rent and was just giving my answer as to why we cant.
you know nothing of my situation and it is not for you to judge why i became pregnant with my children, that is nothing to do with you.
you know what is unfair..how people on benefits pay something stupid like £10 a week rent and how the benefits office pay their council tax as they are not able to help themselves and get a job.
we pay over £100 per week rent which might not seem like a lot but at least its paid with hard earned money.
But you are on benefits ... How much CB and CTB do you receive each week?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Well said Chocs! If you dont want to share your benefits with the rest of the world then thats your choice - no-one elses! ... I'm pretty sure the people that are trying to judge you will have or at some point in their life will have to claim some sort of benefits!:kisses2: 01.03.2014 - Marry the man of my dreams :kisses2:

we are not entitled to benefits as my partner works over 40 hours a week.
so we cant claim housing benefit, housing allowance, working tax credit, income support etc.
I am trying very hard not to be judgemental nor give up trying to help
I am finding it hard to work out why you cannot afford private renting.
You say that your husband works 40 hours a week and you receive CB and CTC. You say your rent is £100 per week. You say that you are not entitled to WTC, HB nor CTB?
You say that you husband is earning £7000 less than he did last year.
Right so far?
1. Have you checked that you aren't entitled to any other benefits?
2. Have you informed Tax Credits that your husband is earning a lot less this year and asked for a reassessment based on this year's earnings?
3. If you are definitely not entitled to any more benefits then you may benefit from budgeting advice, ways to reduce your debt (I think you said you had council tax arrears - apologies if this isn't the case) and ideas for upping your income.
If number 3 is the case then you can be helped.
I know you feel annoyed at The System and I am sure you love your children, and your husband works very hard but life isn't fair - sorry but it isn't and you need to try and do something to help yourselves. (This isn't mean to sound harsh)
You have come onto this forum and while I accept that some people have gone off the original subject, you have received a great deal of advice and help.
I'm sorry to say that you do need to take some sort of action and act on the advice given. No more excuses!:):)0 -
You are judging other people, and you seem to think that the authorities have an obligation to help you. I am guessing that you receive a good amount of help already.
i would not ask anyone i know that question not even my own mother.
your question is in very bad taste and just plain rude.0 -

Hate to say this, but in a way you deserved elvis86's post, several people here are suggesting that you go to some of the other MSE boards where people might be able to help you (VERY good advice). Yet you've just decided you can't be helped (so won't bother trying)!
Instead of writing excuses here as to why x, y or z won't help, go over to the debt-free wannabe and benefits & tax-credits boards and see if people there can suggest any ways to save money or get more money. Even it's just £5-10 a week you get/save, that's £5-10 which can go to pay off your bills.
Or is it that the only help you want is a new (bigger) council house/flat?"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
