Especially as they said it was the one, they would not be viewing anything else, it was too cheap blahdy blahdy blah, turns out they were also viewing something else too, which they have also cancelled. Why are people such liars?

I think the answer is that they don't know their own minds and do their decision-makling 'on the hoof.'

Our third buyers were only with us for a week, fortunately, but they really wanted a different school catchment area. I guess it took them seven days to work out if they could find somewhere 'acceptable' in the area they wanted, but they held on to ours while they looked.....

Absolutely maddening but, as usual, I can see how various pushes & pulls work and understand it. It doesn't mean I approve, but I've the odd 'Road to Damascus' moment myself. There's no need to lie though.

Hope you soon find someone genuine. The right person for your house is out there. They won't need to dither, or lie.

What sort of level was your offer?

Well my house is up at £279,950 and I'm hoping to get £265,000. the first offer, of course, was £250,000, but they came back a week later and went to £260,000. I said i'd have a little think to see what they would do, and they came back 2 hours later with £262,500. My mortgage advisor told me to hold for £263,500 then go for it. I held and it looked like they were gonna go for it, but then this other house came back onto the market, which they previously loved so i lost out, just. That was a week ago now, and everyday since i been thinking i done the wrong thing there, but they would have pulled out anyway when this other house came up, wouldn't they? On reflection, I'm thinking positive, as there must be another reason why it didn't happen. My estate agents fee's are astronomical, and in a way i'm glad because now they really have to work for their ridiculous price. This is my second property, and i've learnt an awful lot about estate agents on this one. Next time i will be far more pushier, and i urge people, especially first time sellers to read the small print about the agents sole period term agreement. I've been rather cruelly locked into mine for a real hefty length of time!

    Good luck to everyone!

If they loved the other house so much and more than yours I think if they had only just agreed a sale on yours, that yes they would have switched, I dont think a grand either way would have changed that.

They did seem SO genuine, thats the problem! I have a feeling they saw this house after mine, but I did ask if they were viewing any others that day, Oh no, we wouldnt want to view any more now we have seen this one!

  • Exactly Purrs that's what i thought. The only reason i tried to get a bit more is because I've decided to pay agent, solicitors and hips, and stamp fees out of my own pocket so as not to bump up my mortgage, so every penny counts!

I'm sorry Purrs, that really is unfair. People really are such swines! I'm sure you must be pretty down about that, but stay positive, it just means there is something better waiting. If not a better offer then a better house after you sell! Are you in a dire need to move on?
Forgive me I'm still playing catch up with everything!

We really want to sell, yes although at the moment we have no idea what we will do when we sell, considering emigrating. At the moment DH has lost his job, so we cant afford to buy on, although hopefully he will find work soon. So far 2009 as well as 2008 have been horrible years for us. It can only get better!
