We preserve when fruit is in season and at its cheapest and use it for Christmas presents, this year everyone was well catered for mainly thanks to Mr A's woopsie on rhubarb, I got 12 large packs for 10p each and strawberries at 10p a punnet back in September:-)0

We give most of our stash away as presents, and just keep one of each type for our own use - usually the ones with the labels we couldn't get off! We find that a jar of jam/jelly/marmalade etc is a nice thank-you / token present for someone you want to give something small to but don't really know well, such as the vet or a colleague. Pressies for family and friends tend to be a hamper of various preserves plus some home made beer or fruit liqueur and/or apple juice.
This Christmas we were visiting OH's extended family, and had agreed on small presents only for the adults, so we put a variety of all of the above types of produce into a large hamper and labelled it as being for all the adults, so they got to choose which they wanted and do a bit of bargaining about who got which thing. It was quite fun.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Thank you for all your suggestions. Particularly like the idea of using it as a marinade
As for giving it as gifts --- I totally agree .... except, that this is what I have left over AFTER giving to everyone imaginable, LOL ...
Never mind, it'll soon be time to make other types of jam to replenish those supplies, and I do rather fancy attempting lemon curd soon too !!GC - March 2024 -0 -

you can make lemon curd very successfully in the microwave, if you have one. i've been tempted to make orange curd. you can make it in small patches too which is good since it's got eggs in.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -
