    Hi fishface,

There's an older thread with lots of recipes that should help:

    Marmalade

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

    Hi everyone!

My MIL gave my OH a bag of Doves Gluten free white bread flour (on prescription) after he kept raving on about how fab our Panny SD253 is (which is just great, apart from he's never used the bu-gger himself...). She's coming on Sunday and I've just read the recipe book which is all for gluten free bread MIXES not using flour

So I was going to wow her with 101 bread based things she hasn't had for 20 odd years, but I'm a bit stuck now.

Has anyone any tried and tested recipes suitable for those with coeliacs made with Doves Gluten Free white flour, please?

I best scrub that paddle, last thing I want to do is cause her a bad reaction... :p

    Thanks in advance! :T

    6 tsp xantham gum
    3 tsp (sachet) yeast
    1 tsp salt
    2 tbspns sugar
    2 medium eggs
    1 tspn cider vinegar
    40ml olive oil
    360 ml warm water
450g doves farm white bread flour

Measure out the water and oil, beat in the eggs and vinegar then pour into pan.
    Add flour,sugar and salt.
    Sprinkle yeast evenly over flour.
    Sprinkle xantham gum over mixture.
Start on gluten free setting..after 5 mins or so carefully scrape down the sides as its mixing to ensure the dough comes together properly.
When baked leave to cool on a wire rack, you must raise it up or it goes 'wet'/heavy on the bottom.
Leave to cool completely before cutting!!

I have lots of ther recipes if you need any just let me know..:D

*ps* I get the Juvela Harvest Mix,Dr Schar and Orgran mixes on prescription these all work beautifully in the panny;)
  • Hello.
As an inductee into the world of cookery technology, could anyone advise which breadmaker would be suitable as a gift for my m-i-l who has gluten intolerances, please? She's wanted one for a while. If it makes other things, all the better!
    Thanks, Ax
  • The Panasonic BM range have a gluten free setting, if I recall. Certainly my now superseded 253 model does. They are excellent machines too.

    Hope that helps,

  • I have coeliac disease and was wondering if anyone on this board makes gluten free bread using a breadmaker?

I have had enough of the (chemical filled) bread that I get in supermarkets which works out at just over £3.50 a week for two small loaves. It could be worse so I shouldn't complain really but I want to explore other alternatives.

I guess it may be cheaper to get bread on prescription and I may go down that avenue but I would like to know if anyone makes edible bread using a breadmarker please?

If so, would you please tell what breadmaker you have? I know that some breadmakers have a specific gluten free cycle/programme. Also, would anyone be kind enough to give me their ingredients/recipes.

    Many, many thanks in advance

Hi, I'm coeliac too and have tried bread in the BM. I usually find it sticks or tries to climb out of the tin, never had a successful one yet.

If you get it on prescription, a couple of the makes do a fresh bread which is delivered fresh to your chemist and it is edible (not 100% but edible) you can also freeze it.

Tesco also do a GF baguette which at £1.35 or £1.55 cant remember which is surprisingly good.
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

    Hi frugalfreda :D
I bought a panasonic especially for making glutenfree stuff as my morphy richards ones just didn't do the job..the difference is amazing..I've been using a breadmaker for probably 10 years now,had a prima one which lives with my mum now the morphyrichards fastbake and the large morphy richards one.

I get Juvela Harvest Mix on prescription for DS3 and also Dr Schar mix B,I've tried Orgrans Breadmix also which comes out well but he's not so keen on the taste(too ricey)..The other two he prefers as they taste more like bread.

We tried Juvela fresh which was edible and Glutafin Fresh ok too but you have to have them in batches and they aren't so nice after being frozen, whereas homemade tastes the same..

Most of the flour mixes(eg glutafin white mix, juvela harvest mix) can be used in your baking too so it does save a lot of money :D:D
