Tesco...petrol profiteering ?????

Something is only worth what someone will pay for it. Tesco never seem to have any shortage of people on their forecourts so I imagine they are not to concerned with the op email. I bet the member of staff is about to get a rocket up the jacksie though now they have been dropped in it for having a conversation with a member of the public with out realising that it would come to their supererors attention.0

What magical content do you think is in "premium" diesel?
hopefully summat to stop the dreaded jellies formingin feezing weather? Mr AUdimondeo man certainly couldn't cope with old style diesel....
modern technology [ie the ECU's which control the engine] will also adapt to different fuel qualities...or rather , additives....eg on a petrol engine, the ECU can adapt between differing octanes of fuel....thereby gaining/losing a bit of power in the process.......which process also may take a bit o' time, during which the ECU mucks about finding the optimum settings.....thus giving the ''impression'' of a sort of power loss??
for me, I need to stick with a fuel that allows my ignition timing without the dreaded rattling, due to the high[er] comp ratio...overall, given my mileages, not much of an extra expense....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Its a similar situation with the 2 tesco stores in gloucester, 1 store is cheaper than the other and theres at least a 10-15 minute drive between the 2, residents complained and the story made it into the local paper, the reply was something like the petrol prices at each store is based on the other petrol stations in a radius of each store0

Do people still believe this.
Tesco make almost double the profit on petrol to what they do in store! It might not be a huge margin but it is the case.0 -
I must admit i can get super unleaded 99 ron from Tesco cheaper than competitors sell 95 ron for. No complaints on that score. One competitor sells 97 ron as super for a premium price over Tescos 99 ron.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Because one batch from one refinery was faulty.
So because of that, you're going to judge the billions of litres a year that are sold without problem?
I simply work on the " once bitten .. twice shy " basis, I have a choice, I choose not to buy my fuel at Tesco, seems sensible to me.;)0 -

what will you do when another glitch arises at a major distribution centre...and it affects Shell, or Esso, or Total instead?
that will leave you solely with the likes of Asda?
what of your regular fuel retailer?.....what if......a mistake occurs, and diesel gets put into their U/L tanks?
or vice versa?
The fact that Tesco was one of the two retailers affected points to the sheer quantity of fuel Tesco actually shifts?
Maybe other retail chains WERE affected, but it didn't impact on anything like so many customers?
your logic implies a belief that Tesco have some sort of influence over the quality of the fuel in a distribution centre.
They don't...any more than any other retailer does.
regarding the quality of the fuel you place in your vehicle's tank...then you are very much in the 'lap of the gods'.....and like the rest of us, have to place some reliance upon the BS standards, etc, etc.
by quality, I refer to the unintentional inclusion of contaminants. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

I will cross that bridge if and when I come to it, I actually have more confidence in a fuel company, than I do in Tesco.
I am not stopping anyone else from using Tesco, if they so choose, I prefer to use alternative fuel suppliers ever since the " Tesco Fuel Fiasco ", I just plain don't have any confidence in them since then.0 -
same here my local one is 3 p cheaper than the two in the next towns..............lucky me I say , but some grocery items are cheaper in the stores associated with those garages than they are in mine so it is swings and roundabouts and this is the same across the board so it is simply a case of knowing your prices and shopping around.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Hello again...as promised once I had received a reply to my email to Tesco I said that I would post it here....but first....
A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO RESPONDED!!!
:T
I see frequent mention of the success of Tesco as a premier British Company - I have no problem with that whatsoever, nor was I knocking that aspect. As far as I am concerned they are promotionally excellent, locally aware and offer a great shopping service to the community where I live ! HOWEVER ........
DONT FOR ONE MOMENT BE DECEIVED BY THEIR "EVERY LITTLE HELPS" OFFERS....THEY ARE ALMOST ALWAYS HELPING TESCO AT LEAST AS MUCH...WHERE I LIVE ...IF I SPEND £50 IN THE STORE I CAN OBTAIN 5P (!!!!!!!) A LITRE OFF PETROL WOW !!! (I am a new OAP as of last week and normally spend £10 a go - usually after 8pm on bargains). So what you young guys say...but bear in mind they are already charging 4-5p a litre MORE THAN NEWPORT.
At least they have the honesty to admit in their email that they are doing this purely for PROFIT....WHICH IS EXACTLY AS I SUSPECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE.So what you young guys might say again...you don't have to buy it !
Yes I do because I cannot afford to drive 18 miles to Newport everytime I want petrol.
...It's just not fair but I cant do anything about it .....
