Tesco...petrol profiteering ?????

I hate to say it but I think you're wasting your time - especially with trading standards.
Like everybody else has said it is about competition. I'm fairly sure that if you compare the price of the goods in Tesco stores then you'll find variation throughout the country.0 -
Simple cure, don't buy Tesco Petrol...sorted..

But even the OP says the tesco petrol is the cheapest, just that the tesco petrol in one area is not the same price as the tesco petrol in another area, big deal! OP since you frequently goto the cheaper area why not just buy your petrol there? Sorted!0 -
Company in "making profit" shocker!!0

I wouldn't use Tesco Petrol if it was 10p a litre cheaper, I value my car too much.;)0 -
95 octane unleaded petrol, whether from tesco or Esso, is pretty much the same stuff.
A [conclusive?] experiment conducted b a car tuning company on one of their high performance engines...which required 98 octane [super-unleaded] petrol, due to compression ratios....found marginally better preformance was obtained from Tesco Super unleaded, compared with all except Shell's [then new] super unleaded fuel.
essentially it all comes from the same distribution pipe....let's face it, if one's car actually cannot function efficiently on certain brands of fuel, it say's [to me, anyway] that there is something amiss with the design of that car?
I do have an issue with tesco's petrol policy......but it concerns their 5p off a litre promotions.
Where I live, the local Tesco store does not have a petrol retail outlet.....the nearest outlets being between 13 and 18 miles away.
[the closer outlet retails its fuel at around 5 p a litre more than the other, due to the location/competition....as others have noted above]
Thus, to take advantage of Tesco's [quite welcome] promotion involves travelling...effectively nullifying the discount........which I feel places tesco's local customers at a disadvantage.
Personal fuel purchasing habits are that I use a local, rural retailer...especially as they are a Shell retailer.
This is not just due to location [around 5 miles distant]...but they are..within a few pence per litre.....quite competitively priced within a 40 mile radius [I live in a rural location]....plus, my current personal/commute car is a home-built, quite highly tuned competition vehicle which requires super unleaded fuel......it's a case of 'needs must' regarding usage at present...although the car is quite efficient with fuel for its age.
A comment about Petrolprices.com.
It is not quite as all-encompassing as one would wish................for example, my search for super unleaded over their 20 mile radius brings up Shell retailers as the lowest prices...located within the city area nearest to me [18 miles]..which one would expect...yet...my local retailer [shell]...is consistantly around 2-3 p more expensive than its city brother.....which is still cheaper than many of the competing prices mentioned on the website....but it doesn't get a mention!!!
[currently at 120.9 a litre.....or effectively, 4 litres of fuel to drive to the cheapest and back.]No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

If you don't like the way they trade why not buy it from an alternate retailer.
How about:-
Waitrose at Portishead 107.9p or Shell Cribbs Causeway 108.9p
whilst in Newport the price is 109.9p at all retailers.

The £5.30 Severn Bridge toll would wipe out any saving!!!

So if that were true, how come only Tesco ( and other Supermarket fuel ) caused so much damage to so many customers cars about a year ago?
I have never used it since, nor will I in the future.0 -

The reason is the way they collect their data - it's based on people using company fuel cards to buy their petrol. A small station may not accept them, or have very few customers who use them.
Same here - the consistently cheaper small station only shows up erratically.0 -

I use Tesco Diesel in my company car because:
(1) I buy a lot of fuel from them and therefore get a lot of Clubcard Points
(2) The car is new and under 3 year warranty
(3) It gets replaced in 3 years so I don't care what happens to it after that
But my 2 own cars run on Shell which is 1p per litre more. I tend to keep my own cars longer than 3 years. The man without a signature.0
