Making crisps!

Really really delicious. Someone mentioned making crisps from butternut squash, and it brought it right back to me, how my dad used to make potato crisps and how wonderful they were.
It's a slightly....ummmm.eccentric recipe, but it does work.....
Don't bother to peel the tatties, they are wonderful in their skins. Just turn the deep fryer on to pre-heat, or put the oil on and get the servant to watch it
PUT THE POTATOES INTO THE SPIN DRYER OR WASHER, AND SPIN DRY FOR 2 MINS. (If you really can't be bothered, just pat them really well dry with a clean t-towel - but spinning works best and is the authentic 'daddy' recipe).
Deep fry, salt and enjoy!!!!!
Don't eat them more than once a month as they are EXTREMELY moreish and very bad for you
I guarantee your kids will love them! And yes, you can do this with parsnips, squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes... a good but not particularly healthy way to get your kids to eat different veggies

Hi jobbingmusician,
Thank you for reminding me of memories that I had forgotten.
My mother used to make home made crisps and they were delicious. I make crisps with my own children occasionally, but not too often as I can't stand the smell of frying in the house.:o
Mum also used to spin dry salad leaves after washing them. I remember thinking at the time that she was mad! I didn't appreciate all the old style things that she taught me at the time, I just wish she was still here so that I could say thank you.

Oh I'm feeling hungry now... You can buy vegetable crisps in the shops, but what's the point when they taste nicer homemade.
I do mine in the oven - I use beetroot, sweet potatoes and carrots to make that perfect flavour. Cut up thin slices and I mean 1-2mm of the veg and put in the oven with a vegetable oil / water mix (can buy it in the shops but easy to make) sprayed on. Cook for 25 - 30 mins on 200 oc until golden brown. Yum.....There is no need to run outside

I would be tempted to make them if I thought I could cut them thin enough. Do they go throught the food processor okay?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I bought some parsnip crisps the other day. They were extremely tasty so I imagine they would taste even better homemade.
I don't even really like parsnips normally but these sounded nice as they had salt and black pepper seasoning on them which I love in crisps.
I would be tempted to try and make some myself if I thought it would work in the oven? Anyone tried it? I don't have a deep fat fryer. Or could they be shallow fried?
Grateful for any tips as usual.0 -
Anyone got a recipe of doing them in the oven? When I do them they just end up too dark.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hello all
I love spring onion crisps. Love them. M&S used to sell big 100g bags which were gorgeous, but they seem to have stopped doing them. The only place I can find them are in the multipack bags in Morrisons with prawn cocktail & beef & onion. Does anybody know anywhere else that sells them?
Failing that, is there ANY way I could make some that were just as tasty as the shop ones? I've done salted crisps before but I don't know how on earth I would get the spring onion flavour?? Any help appreciated!0
