I've made them as below and they were delicious (from UKTV Food) using 2 parsnips and 3 sweet potatoes plus a pinch of chilli powder and about 1 tablespoon of oil
First heat the oven to 200°C/gas 6.
Then peel the vegetables using a swivel peeler or mandolin, slice them diagonally into wafer-thin crisps. Spread out on paper towel to remove excess moisture.
I then put the oil, chilli and any other seasoning into a large plastic bag and mix them up then tip all the vegetables into the bag and ensure they are evenly coated. You can do it in a bowl and mix them with your hands but I find this a bit messy.
Arrange in a single layer on a baking tray. Roast for 20-30 minutes or until the parsnips and sweet potato are golden brown. The spread out on paper towel until cool and crisp (if you can wait that long).
I thought they were delicious. I also make sweet potato wedges with chilli this way.0 -

Same here. Complaints from OH and DD that they didn't like them as they were soggy - first complaints I've had in AGES :rolleyes:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I made the parsnip ones. Just drizzled a tiny bit of oil on and thay were wonderful. OH wolfed them down and he doesn't like parsnips.0

i would love to know if its possible to make crisps yourself?, i have not bought my boys flavoured crisps for months now and they have calmed down considerbably and when offered them the other day thry turned them down flat.
However its not all good, they (and i) have taken a likeing to kettle chips but at at least £1.30 a packet, and £1.79 at my local shops:eek: i am finding them expensive (they have a small handfull with there lunch for eating there sandwich/soup etc, not just that they are so damm tasty that once i know a packets open well it never lasts untill bedtime
they only have the lightly salted ones, so im hopeing there is a easy/cheap and heathy solution to making your own with no need for special equiptment/ or something i do not have
thank you

Hi there
Yep...making your own crisps is easy....simply thinly slice your potatoes using one of those vee slicers you can get from many stores -JML etc or put them through your food processor to thinly slice then spread out on a teatowel to remove some of the moisture and then fry as you would chips...i do them in small batches so they dont stick together.and then drain on kitchen paper..you can also use parsnips, carrots, raw beetroots etc.... i cant remember the name of the company that make the various veg ones but they are about £1.29 for a standard individual bag...so i had a go at my own and they are great...plus you can get extra veggies into your children :-)-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

I also have a recipe to make them in the microwave
http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/getrecipe.zsp?id=13526
hope that helps0 -
I do mine in the microwave, just slice potatoes thinly, spray with a little oil, sprinkle on some seasoning and zap for 30 seconds - 1 min or so - you can get special crisp makers for the microwave where you can stack them so they don't stick (like a round toast rack) but I just spread mine out in batches on a plate.0
