ikea - customer service is a disgrace

Last Saturday I rang IKEA Glasgow for a stock check on a sofa and was told they had 15 in stock. I travelled 120 miles to the store and they told me they couldnt get to them because they didnt have a forklift truck driver that day. They said as it was not my fault they would deliver the settee to me within two weeks, and they would ring in 2 days to take payment over the phone. I travelled 120 miles back home and despite ringing every day since, sometimes twice a day, they never returned my call or asked for payment.
You cannot get through directly to the store and their customer service number for the store connects you to a call centre in Rotherham. They claim to ring the store each time I call them but there is no answer there. They are unable or unwilling to put you through to a manager but did put me through to Joe the supervisor who promised to ring me back today. It's now 22.20 hours and I'm still waiting.
I will write next week to Lars Wingren the store manager and give him 7 days to reply after which I will send him an invoice for 240 miles of travel and seven hours out of my life. If he doesn't reply to that then I'll issue a summons through the small claims court to their head office and they can then shove the settee up their a**.
Any e-mail or direct contact numbers for Glasgow IKEA would be helpful

No you won't because invoicing him or trying to take him to court would be a complete waste of your time and money given there's no contract in place for them to give you a sofa.
I've had more or less the same experience with Ikea but in my case it was a TV table that they had on the high shelves and repeatedly would not get down because the computer said they had some on the lower accessible shelves when they didn't.
Best thing you can do is move on with your life and simply never shop at such an unreliable store.0 -
I know this is an old thread but felt I needed to have a rant about Ikea customer service and in general the total lack of co-ordination / incompetence that I have had to deal with with this company over the last 7 months regarding a kitchen installation.
I had an Ikea Kitchen installed back in June last year. The kitchen work top was installed with a join to close to the sink, and as such the work top was warping within 3 months.
It has taken me this long to get to the point of them actually ordering replacement work tops and arranging to have them re-fitted.
Ikea have been appalling to deal with - I have constantly been on the phone to customer services who always assure me someone will call back and its only on a handful of occasions this has happened - I have lost count of the times I have called!
As they no longer used the original installation company, a guy came out about 5 months ago and measured up again for the replacement tops - Ikea somehow either never received the details, or lost them and subsequently it took them another 3 months to organise another company to come out to measure up AGAIN - that was nearly 2 months ago now.
The worktops apparently are going to be delivered this Friday, and I am still trying to pin them down when the actual installation company will replace them. No one seems to speak to anyone - the distribution company don't appear to talk to Ikea, and I have no idea who is dealing directly with the installation company.. its a shambles in my mind!
I am heavily pregnant... 2 weeks to now go before my baby is due.. .and totally not wanting all this disruption in my kitchen right now.... I have been telling Ikea this for the last 5 or 6 months, and they obviously just have no interest in personal situations like this... as if I am not stressed enough without having to be constantly on the phone to Ikea all the time chasing thiis up and being palmed off with excuses.
Should anyone ask me about kitchens from Ijkea in the future, I will warn them off to never use - it really is disgusting how they have handled this - I will hopefully get around to sending a formal complaint to the head office, but think I already know that it will just end up in the bin probably along with all the others!!!
The kitchen was purchased from the Glasgow store.0 -

Bargain Corner items are non-returnable, it is up to the customer to ensure the item is suitable before they commit to buy.
I have been pleased with all my items form Ikea, very good quality for the price you pay and no problems with customer service. This is the Croydon branch.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

I had similar problems with customer service at Warrington, I got a voucher for a free breakfast ( which my son used) for a hundred miles of inconvenienceI have never been in an Ikea store since and never will do.0

It is a real shame that Ikea were un-helpful. Furthermore it is a shame if the sales person didn't make it clear to you that it was in the bargain area. It can be stressful enough buying furniture without this hassle, I feel your paid!!
The problem here in terms of taking it back, is there's nothing actually wrong with it - you admit you should have measured it. I'm not saying that to be rude (as so many people on here can be) it's just worth bearing in mind when you come to demanding your rights in letters to head office - they sold you a bed that you picked.... the bed wasn't broken and you changed your mind. (But this site isn't Ikea defence - so I'll take your side!!)
It might be worth double checking the quoted measurements and the size of your room again. While I'm sure there must something written into the law for a small error..... if you bought a 6ft long bed and it was 6ft 2 it's not your fault it doesn't fit...... is just an idea because otherwise the only reason they have to compensate you is just for the sake of being nice - and some companies just aren't! That said, I've never had any trouble with Ikea (Warrington).
Also, (check Ikea's bargain corner rules) if a part of the were to break in the next week or so;).... it wasn't fit to be sold - (but that would be very naughty)
Let us know how you get on - and thanks to the poster who gave us their head office address - people have been searching for that for years!!
Good luck!!:TPlease note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0 -

Their Customer Service response has been appalling. Without going into long details of the complaints process I've gone through, I am incandescent with rage over their inability to even answer the questions I posed, the manner in which they have replied in tone and content and their total inability to focus on anything other than how they can make sure that no blame can possibly be laid at their door for anything.:mad::mad: They are a disgrace.0
