*sigh* 4 years to go.
At the way things are now you can get just 540 liters of heating oil wth £200, that will last you just 6 weeks, so if you get it in December it'l be dry (oil tank) by February, it is now the 3rd week of April and I am still shivering! I got 400 liters on the 3rd of April at £150.00 and it is almost empty now!
9 years to go!0 -
Dora_the_Explorer wrote:Sadly - there's no reduction in the price at any age and the free licence kicks in at 75.
Re the car insurance - I'm over 60 and still working and happy with my insurance supplier which is not ageist and treats me as the adult I am who does grown up things like working.
Same here, I am 51 now but I do feel 20 years older, I think I have worked to long! Started work when I was 16, never claimed benefits or anything! I had to provide for my single mum (divorced), So I when to sea at 16, sent money to Mum weekly to support her and my younger brother (13).
That was over 35 years ago mind you!
I don't pay car insurance because of my youngest daughter's autism, I am provided with a motability car.0 -
Hi I'm new to this forum although I have been reading it for ages. I just wanted to join in this thread cos yes I'm the big 50 next week although I keep saying its my 40th I don't mean to it just slips out. I agree with all the posts I'm sure there must be a mistake I can't really be 50 already.
I came across some freebies in Manchester

Well I'm here now as well, and have been saving up reading this thread until it was 'official'. And right disappointed I am too! I was shocked to discover recently that I'd be eligible to join Age Concern at 50 - I mean, who's concerned about 50? I'm still a young mum, aren't I? I mean, as long as I had young children, I was a young mum (in my dreams!) and they're not exactly OLD now, are they? I mean, they're still only teenagers, they're still all in education (although whether first year Uni counts as full-time education I'm not sure!), and the youngest is acting like a 4 year old most of the time.
Although my mum says that their local Age Concern centre does subsidised lunches, and cheap haircuts. She and dad seem to spend half their lives down there, or at the Salvation Army, which also runs a minibus to Lidl once a week then takes them all home afterwards.
Neither of which are a lot of use to me when I'm at work all day, 70 miles away from them!
But I suppose the moral is that there might be local concessions, and there are certainly local events. Indeed, in my honour I'm sure, Bristol has a Healthy Living Week for the over 50s. Didn't spot any belly-dancing there either! :rotfl: Actually, didn't spot anything I had either time or inclination for at all! Too busy still eating my cake ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Savvy_Sue,
