    saga holidays?
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

Turning 50 does not entitle you to any state benefits that you wouldn't get at 49 or younger.
Most age related discounts kick in at pensionable age, not 50.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • However, as I think someone has already mentioned, she may be able to get cheaper car/house insurance through Saga and others.

Othrwise, afaik, nothing. 50 is the new 25 these days, it is not old, she has another 15 years before she reaches retirement age.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

With most of these over 50's savings accounts , supposed insurance deals etc, you'll still usually get a better deal on the regular market if you shop around. Some of them may offer a few side benefits/perks but you may not want them anyway. Bit of a waste of time mostly IMO.

Just look 'your age & a bit' & with a little 'Tongue in cheek exaggeration' you could probably qualify for 'Pensioner Specials' @ pubs & restaurants E.G. An excellent fish restaurant locally charges some £6.75 for normal helping,
but charge the Pensioner ( without any qualification ) the same for fish, chips peas, tea & bread & butter AND a sweet of the day. They seem to be more than happy with some fairly obvious abuse of the system, however, in fairness the helpings are smaller BUT the restaurant is always teeming with customers. Really depends on your moral stance!!!!

And also depends on how highly you regard your general health and well-being.

A huge amount of calories in that meal that you quoted, Tony - ensuring that we die earlier due to obesity-related problems! All that sugar and fat, very little protein (the fish inside the batter), just solid fat and carbohydrate. Thanks but no thanks! I'd sooner go to McD's (perish the thought!)

I've commented on that horrible calorie-laden 'cheap' meal quoted by Tony in the thread above. Some things may be cheap but they're TOO cheap to be good for you!
