12 Free Bottles of Wine loophole with Smile

I've just received an email from smile (I'm already a customer of 6 years). It seems they are repeating the previous offer whereby if an existing customer recommends a friend then both customers, new and old, will get 12 bottles of wine free (apart from the £4.99 delivery charge).
If, after reading the posts in this thread, and reading all the terms, you are interested in the offer I'll happily forward you the email (first 3 people) if you PM me. I know MSE doesn't encourage / permit some swapping (of info) between MSErs but this is just an email....if for this reason, or any other this post is not allowed then Mods.....fire away and feel free to remove it.
Though I wouldn't be able to offer you anything in return (problems swapping details) I would be happy to donate some money to a charity of your choice and email you a receipt.
I think this is ok but happy to ammend / remove if it's not.Hello MR <snip>
Recommend a friend to smile by forwarding the below e-mail onto them, and both you and your friend will get 12 bottles of wine each if they go on to open a smile current account by 16th December 2005 +
It's easy too, you can recommend up to 3 friends (meaning you could make up to 36 bottles of wine) by forwarding the below message onto your friends, not forgetting to mention how great it is to be a smile customer.
Thanks
smile

I've got that email too today, and that's after my husband applied for an account last week to get the 12 bottles!!
I've emailed them pointing out that I've already recommended someone and quoted the code and asked if there's any chance I can have some wine too.
Won't hold my breath though.0 -
Ditto about the repeat offer. 36 for the account holder if they get 3 people to open an account and 12 for each person who opens an account.
Still can't persuade my wife to open one.
Quite happy to forward the email to anyone who wants it if that's allowed.
Anyone with a conscience out there? Take a look at who your bank does business with!
Sorry, that's my own version of shameless marketing!
Glug, glug! :beer:0 -
So, I completed the application, transferred £1500, have received pin number, cheque card and cheque book, but no mention has been made anywhere (apart from the first page of the Smile form) of free wine!
Have I done something wrong, or has anyone else found this to be the case?0 -
£4.99 for 12 bottles of wine sounds a bargain to me, seeing as you're lucky to get one decent bottle for that in the shops - I can't believe anyone is moaning about it!!
Now, enough moaning ... on to my main point. If anyone is seriously thinking of changing bank accounts I would recommend Smile. I have just opened an account with them as I was fed up with my high-street bank charging me the earth. I decided to look into an internet bank and chose Smile as the best of the bunch (the free wine helped of course, and I'll be saving a lot more than £4.99 in bank charges!!!!). I hardly ever have any money in my account after all the bills come out, so a lower interest rate isn't really an issue with me as I only get about 1p a month if i'm lucky anyway!
They deal with everything for you, including transferring all your direct debits etc, within a couple of weeks. My previous bank wouldn't do that for me when I opened their account and I got in a right old mess changing everything for myself.

Nixie - when you send a secure message to Smile how long does it usually take them to reply? I (well, husband did typed by me!) sent one on Monday and again on Wednesday, and still no response. Chased again today. Starting to annoy me slightly as other banks I use respond withing 24 hours. I sent an email to the general contact us email address and got a terse one line email sent back saying that they will respond as soon as they are able!!0 -

I've only had to send one message so far, but I got a reply the next day. Thy were also very helpful and friendly when I called them this morning, which makes a change from my previous banks.
