I suppose the deal is still possible, but I think you would have to cancel the account almost as soon as it was confirmed your wine would be on that way.
Once I realised that, I decided not to do it.
Good catch there, thanks.0 -
Hello all you money savers,
Before you go ploughing money into this the other chap above is correct the t&c's on current accounts do apply to the deal on wine. not only do you have to deposit 1500 smakeroonies in it you also have to have a continuos amount going in on a onthly basis and they'd like it to be your wage but i said i wanted to put in just 343 everymonth for some dissability money for our daughter and tey said that was fine as long as its activey uses. they said account would be scrutinized in February and those who just placed a deposit would not be eligible....FACT! out of the horses mouth. bw warned y`all. (sorry just come back form the states, awful place its full of americans you know!)0 -
Thanks for letting us know. I guess loads of people will be caught out by this. I've opened the account but don't think I'll go any further. Guess that 12 bottles of wine just isn't worth the effort for me anyway.0

I bank with Smile, and their customer service is better than I have experienced from any other bank. So maybe the appropriate response is: allow the wine offer to catch your attention, try out this bank while enjoying the wine, and if you like the product then keep your current account with them for good and enjoy hassle-free banking.
BTW the wine is from Laithwaites, and pretty good. I am happy to pay about fifty quid for a dozen bottles of the stuff, and even at that price get a much better deal than from the supermarkets.0 -
They did a similar deal last year, but 6 bottles, no delivery charge and you only had to deposit an unspecified amount. The offer didn't go overly well as I seem to remember that some people didn't get their wine. On the other hand, I actually received 2 lots so obviously no complaints here!!
This year my husband has opened an account so will see what happens.
The thing about the £1000 monthly deposit was in the T&Cs last year too, but I only ever made one small deposit and still got the wine. Suspect it will be the same this time round.
And yes, the wine was surprisingly good stuff. I googled it and most bottles had won awards.0 -
Hi
I emailed them via their website and they advised that you just need to deposit £1500 before the 10-2-06 and they will email you the voucher by the 28-2-06. They said over the phone that you can even put the money in and take it out again as long as there has been some activity before the 10-2-06. You don't have to deposit a regular monthly amount although they would like you to. She also said that in the past people had opened up accounts and not used them just to get the good deals on ISAs etc so that is why they want you to deposit £1500.
Hope this helps - but of course none of this is written down.....0 -
I have today received an email from Smile regarding the wine offer and its a load of crap about you have to pay in a regular amount each month. The problem with most people is they never listen properly.

You will be eligible for the wine offer if you've applied using the link from our home page to the wine promotion.
The qualification for the wine is that you pay £1500 into your account, and once this is received you will receive the voucher for your wine within 28 days.

Now posters what part of the above message are you having problems understanding?0 -
The T&C of smile include the requirement to pay in your salary or £1500/month. Eventually they will close your account if you don't do this. By then, of course, the case of wine will be but a pleasant memory.Ethical moneysaver0

Must take them a while as I've had the account a year now without paying anything in other than the amount that was needed to secure the wine last time they did one of these offers.0 -

None CTT, but we were just pointing out the T&Cs for opening the current account in the first place. However, from other posts it appears you will get the wine and smile do not appear to enforce their own T&Cs and close the account, for quite some time afterwards anyway.Regards
