Could you tell me where Pr1m@rk is please? I don't know Brighton at all, other than the sea-front & station
so any directions would need to be "Look for Fred's Caff & turn right towards the railway station, past the shop selling retro posters" type. I know there's an indoor shopping centre now; there were a few shops going toward Hove & the one I'm after used to be across the road on a corner but I think it's moved. I had a quick look for the clock tower that used to stand proud but couldn't see it at all & completely lost my bearings last time I had to go into the town for an appointment.
Are The Lanes out of the centre & turn right, heading towards the Pavillion?

Come out of the station, and walk straight ahead, towards the sea. You'll hit the clocktower, with Boots on your left, and Waterstones across the road.
Turn right into Western Road, away from Boots - you can't miss the shops. You'll see the large shopping centre (Churchill Square) on your left. Carry on walking down the road and Primark is on your right, past M&S.
Are The Lanes out of the centre & turn right, heading towards the Pavillion?
Out of the station, straight ahead to the clock tower. This time, turn left, next to Boots into North Street.
For the North Lanes (kooky shops, studenty things, piercing studios, independent boutiques), turn left again up Bond Street, which is past Oxfam but before the big entrance to the Pavilion. After Bond Street there are three other Lanes with shops in them (Kensington Gardens, Sidney Street and one other, can't remember!)
For the proper Lanes by the sea (designer brands, antique shops, cute coffee places, weird gadget shops, lovely restaurants), after turning left by Boots, take the first right into Ship Street. 'Heals' furniture shop will be straight ahead of you. I would then bear left next to Heals to go to the little laneways and coffee shops, restaurants etc. These lanes are really confusing, but they're very small, so if you get lost just keep walking and you'll eventually get somewhere with a main road...!!!
Essentially, once you've turned left by Boots and you're in North Street, the North Lanes are to your left along with the Pavilion, and the proper Lanes are to your right along with the sea.
HTH.

Thank you KiKi! Names & directions duly written into my notebook, so all I need now is a slightly better weather front & I'll be set
Is the Glass Man still there, just down from the station? I could happily stand for hours & watch the treasures appear before my eyes, but always got grabbed by the collar to go do more 'girlie' stuff like sho-ping by my sister &/or matesMind; I'd probably need a garden chair & thermos now to spend any sort of time at the window :rotfl:

There was a little shop about a third of the way down from the railway station that sold beautiful glass ornaments, a bit of jewellry..that sort of thing. The chap would sit close to a window so people could watch him as he created these delicate trinkets from coloured glass rods. I've a daffodil the offspring gave me one year, along with a little family of octopi & another of swans
My most treasured is a dainty little bambi my sister gave me before she married, 39yrs ago
There was a similar set-up out Eastbourne way I think, but the only other place I've seen it is up in Great Yarmouth--but then I don't go away that oftenThe offspring have--thankfully--inherited my love of watching such things & we very much enjoyed visiting the various glass artists over on the Isle of Wight, but that was vases, goblets etc.
I've not yet got into Brighton but there's still time I suppose; seems a bit of a trial just for one shop if I'm honest...I don't really do retail dahlinks! :rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Ahhh, I know there are still some little shops on Queens road but must admit I do not go there very often. So you must visit Venice then for their glass!MFW #185

sounds facinating big mumma. I've not heard of this shop though. I'll be walking up that road to the staion tomorrw so will look harder.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0

No, don't think the Glass Man is still there! I walk to the station every day and I've never seen it - but then perhaps I'm not looking! Queens Road (from the station to the clocktower) has changed a huge amount, though, over the last 10 years. Lots of shops closed and other things opened.
There's a fabulous little tea and cake shop that no-one really knows about, which is always handy when you come out of Fitness First as I do, most evenings. Kind of justifies going to the gym...
