Hello again All.
Just to mention on the Open Market again, the plant stalls are extremely good value when compared to the likes of Wyevale or BnQ. The plants can look a little straggly, but are well watered, they just need a little tlc whenyou get them home, a light trim with some nail scissors sufficesfor better presentation.
Wyvales are doing 3 grow bags for a £5 so, if you're green figured, get growing your own toms from seed now, indoors obviously, ready for transplanting in April/May. I tend to grow my own courgettes as they are costly in the shops and tasteless. Tend to let one or two courgettes become marrows, lovely stuffed with mince in the autumn and the green toms make a lovely chutney for my xmas Turkey!
Keep the Brighton tips coming folks!0 -

Hello Everyone,
I've just joined this site, after browsing here for such a long time.
I've seen talk on here about plans for the Open Market, but what I really want to know is, does anyone know what plans they've got for the old co-op in London Road ?
I also wondered what will take Woolies spot in London Road now it's closed down.
Bye for now !!0 -
Jimbo thanks for reminding me that I must find my inner green godess... I want to grow tomatoes, lettuce and maybe carrots as these are things we buy every week.
Any chance you could post on here your tips for tomatoes or PM me, I will set things up asap however you instruct me to do it! x
Thanks Brightonman for the links and welcome Zippyman - not sure about the Co-Op, thought the open market stalls were going to go in there temporarily whilst the open market itself was being rebuilt....
Also not sure about Woolies - heard a rumour that KFC were taking over some of them but not sure.MFW #185

I heard that Iceland were buying the one in Western Road, but not the one in London Road. Don't know what's going to happen to that one
No idea about Co-Op either. That's been empty for soooo long now. London Road is a bit like a ghost town these days.
Anyone know about Aldi yet?Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £155.04 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
I'm not sure when Aldi is opening, but looks like the place is coming along nicely, personally I've never shopped in there before, so when it opens I'd be interested to see the price comparisons. We ususally shop at Asda since it's only a 5 minute walk from where we live, I'd be interested to know in the price differences between Aldi and Asda.0

Just need to let off a bit of local steam. This is an email I've just sent to the council:-
Dear Sirs
After trying to ring your department today, and waiting for an advisor to become free for nearly 15 minutes, I decided it would be easier to email you.
I would like to get a new recycling box as my one was broken yesterday when your recycling men emptied it and then threw the box onto my driveway, causing a large crack to appear across the bottom and along the side.
My address is:-

I appreciate that your recycling men have a lot of boxes to empty and they do a good job, but a few of them need to have more care and a better attitude to work.
I trust that a box will be delivered very soon.
Yours faithfully
