  • Sorry I could break the vegman news more gently EL!:o Apparently, he works all hours for 9 onths of the year and then spends 3 travelling/family etc.
As for good places in the area to live -depends what your priorities are. It seems to get more expensive the nearer the sea front/ old areas you are. Do you want a decsent size garden - house or flat, how many beds? I love where we are in the kemptown area Good bus links to town, popular for renting a room out, which I do to make ends meet. Nice local shops - butcher, greengrocer etc but good bus links to town. Back yard you couldn't swing a cat in though: if you want to grow any veg, it would be pots only in a typical victorian terrace backyard.

Hi BB - I will check out what he has today...

I do want a garden, so thinking Hangleton/Patcham areas will have more space? Used to live in Kemptown (on St James street sadly) and although lovely overall (especially closeness to the beach), not enough space for somewhere we intend to live around 5 years... still, I will keep it in mind as if the credit crunch 'releases' a nice place in Kemptown with garden, I'd love it!

Found pair of Levis and a top on a charity shop buy 1 get 1 free for £5.50... then a nice top to go out with in another shop for £2.99!
My best bargain was hair straighteners for £2.50 and hair curlers for £2.50 too - both Babyliss. I had intended to spend £49.99 on straighteners in Boots Saturday  So I am truly content with my sub £14 spend for the lot :T

Definately will keep items in mind that are specific, *then* go looking in charity shops scouting out...

  • Butchers in St Georges Rd Kemptown also selling rabbit for £3.50.

EL - Friends of mine moved from Kemptown to Patcham last year and are loving the space and easy parking. Sounds a good long term bet moving further out if you are planning for the future.

  • some 'bargains' in tesco dyke road-

    selected wines 3 for £10.
bacon (each £1.59) - 2 packs £2.50 bottom shelf at the back.
    red bull (£1.07) - 2 cans for £1.60
cider (bulmers i think) - 5 bottles for £5. seem to be smaller than the usual ones they have?

croissants usually 64p, but the slightly dopey guy with glasses put my bag of four through, as 1 item!

Or move further - I moved out to Burgess Hill last year, it's as easy to get into town as some of the outlying bits of Brighton, and the houses are loads cheaper. Bit soulless, slightly chavvy, but OK.
  • Hi all, just to let you know that Woolies are doing their closing down sale from today nationwide.

Also, final chance this weekend for veggie man on Portland road!

Yes in terms of moving it's so hard to predict - I would so love to buy in Spring but at the moment it looks like we're set for more falls for 6-12 months... however, as we'd plan to live there 3-5 years I am wondering if it really matters... Love the idea of more space. Right now we have to squeeze past the sofa and pc to get to the kitchen.

It's impossible to call any markets, but in Brighton you'd have to worry about the ripple through from the city, a lot of the money that inflated the market was coming in via London commuters. Won't hurt to wait and see probably.

In our case the main attraction is a big garden with a small orchard and loads of room to grow veg. It's difficult to get that affordably in Brighton these days.

That is a good thing about the Crash & Recession.

Brighton can return to normal, before crazy boom times.
