The landlord is ducking his responsibilities. His attitude is clearly that he doesn't care as long as they pay.
    Happy chappy
  • I wonder how the LL would respond to pointing out that you are legally entitled to quite enjoyment of the house and that his complete lack of action is breaking this law and in contravention to the originally advertised ad for the property.

Suggest you pay half the rent until he fixes the situation although on what basis exactly might be quite hard.
  • As I understand the OP, she owns her house, it's the neighbours who rent.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • What do the girls next door look like? are they any good?

Had East European working girls living next door to me, but as they worked away no real problems.

For late night noise phone your police non emergency number and get the log number for your complaint.

If you suspect drug use check out "crack house closure orders."
  • What if you took a different approach. What if someone from a call box was to let a few national papers know that some celebs were visiting the said....you could have a swarm of paps. :D
  • it's bizarre that because it's in a house, it's so much more difficult to deal with. we used to have a problem with street prostitutes and our local policing team told all residents to report every single sighting to the non-emergency phone number and to get an official crime number for it. when they could prove that it was a problem, they had the excuse to put resources in to extra patrols. the problem has now been eliminated although some residents do occasionally get harassed by kerb crawlers who don't realise the prostitutes have all gone now!!

i wonder if there's any way of reporting them if they are using the house in a similar manner..... i think harassing the relevant authorities until they do something will be the only way. similarly, something official with the LL can't do any harm.

so sorry for you - hope it gets sorted though.

Well I took the day off today to do some chasing up!

Phoned the landlord who was very 'laid back' about the whole situation - 'I'm working in the Post Office now, I can't talk to you, ring me later' - then I pointed out Monday night's events and the fact that yesterday I'd contacted the police, the council, the local councillor and the MP was next on my list. Oh, and that as he was aware they were working out of the house as prostitutes, that meant he was living off immoral earnings - and could be prosecuted for it, and heavily! (Thanks to everyone for their input on that and giving me the ammunition to do it!)

Suddenly he changed - apparently he has to go into hospital but will serve them with a notice to leave in 6 days? Hmmmm - we will wait and see. Not sure what good that would do though? He also said he'd had words with them recently, but as I pointed out it had obviously had no effect, and that I wans't going to put up with it any longer. I also told him I was most annoyed that he hadn't kept a better eye on things or acted on other neighbour's information, because now I would have to declare it when I move house, and that if that affected my plans I would be seeking legal redress against him (not sure if I can even do that, but I was on a roll lol).

The mood changed - apparently he will see them today and warn them! Not holding my breath on that one though, but I've contacted the local neighbourhood police and they've asked if they could be kept updated - apparently they have visited the house with the landlord's permission, but only 1 girl was in residence, and no evidence of any drugs or prostitution to be seen - but at that time the girls were being collected in the morning and returned in the evening.

So off I go to update my Environmental Health diary!
Thanks to everyone for their input so far - I'll let you know what happens next.
