i wish someone had done that when I was a battered child - might have gone some way to prevent me from becoming a battered wife.
Stef, I resisted replying to this at the time as it made me cry and I didn't think I had anything constructive to say. Maybe I still don't, but I just wanted to give you a big :grouphug: It is the most terrible thing - how so many child victims go on to be either victims or perpetrators as adults. I have spent a lot of today thinking about that. I had some pretty nasty stuff happen to me as a kid too. And when I 'left' home at 15 i ended up in every dive imaginable - hostels, refuges, random peoples' floors. Everywhere I looked misery in childhood was causing misery in adulthood, either for them or inflicted on others. I swore to myself I would never let that happen to me, and luckily I met Dave at 17, a man who, looking back, ticked all the same boxes I did. We were either going to float ashore together or pull each other to the bottom of the sea. Lucky for us it was the right one. I've got a certain Philip Larkin poem going round my head at the moment. You know how it starts. They f:eek:k you up, your mum and dad. That's probably not what he meant, but it's these two lines:Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf...Edited: Oh I'm sorry, I think I drank too much wine while making Buttercup's meal plan. :rotfl:Sorry peeps. I am actually in a somewhat merrier mood now. I got all my laundry done now, my living room looks like widow twanky's! And I got a new simcard for my mobile phone, which feels like a big step forward in joining the world at large again!0 -
Hi Lucysmam and welcome...you will probably have observed by now that, with a select few exceptions, me included naturally, the crowd here are all mad or drunk or both, but you will get used to us all in a short time!
Silvercharming...good on you, it was probably just as well that you didn't have time to get to her or you might be up for assault! People who batter their children deserve jail, at the least...I think that it should be necessary for people to have a permit or license before they are allowed to have children. In relation to fostering and adopting, it is unfortunately necessary to put everyone through what seem to be endless interviews on seemingly unrelated topics, but even with all the security around, some baskets slip through, so it has to be done.
Going shopping in the morning for oven, hob, extractor hood, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, almost going mad at the thought of all the money I will have to spend, I have it, have saved it especially for my kitchen, but now want to hang on to it....is that OS going too far do you think.
Mummysaver...was it you who fell down the stairs? Please have it checked out to-morrow.
Hugs to all in need or want and congratulations to those celebrating
