    Hi sarah,

it's madness isnt it  . I can overpay the the card without penalty, it's just so stupid as the minimum is £75 & I've been paying over £200. It seems to me that basically they're saying I can either keep the card to use & accept the apr increase, or refuse the apr & no longer have use of the card. I'm not going to be bullied into accepting a higher rate of interest - just not that desperate to have credit thanks . It is a pain because of my cunning plan but in the long term it will be their loss & according to a thread over on the CC board, I wont be the only one to say no thank you.

The Barc card is stuck at an even higher rate ( they wont reduce unless account is frozen) & have already tried to transfer to another provider but in spite of unblemished credit record ( so far)I've been turned down for transfers ( possible due to renting & working for a sole trader & not earning a huge amount). Now just need to find £240 to pay Barc by 2nd Feb

is it me, or is this being in debt lark not all it's cracked up to be?

    Hi Lula

Just caught up on your diary - I'm a subscriber now so won't miss any more!!

I must say all this Cap 1 nonsense is most confusing??!! Oh well at least you seem to be getting to grips with it all and I know you are going to have a successful year - you seem so careful with your money.

I think having to think about - and justify - purchases makes a big difference.

With regards to the extra job - well done! I know what you are thinking but 'beggars can't be choosers' (not that I think of you as a beggar...you know what I mean!!) - I know you have mentioned in the past that you've looked for an alternative / additional job but nothing has been around so I wouldn't feel bad about it. Once you have got your debts sorted out you can find lovely ethical job that you love and suits your lifestyle etc etc possibly a job where you get a company dog....like a Police dog handler...or someone who has a pet on TV like Wellard in Eastenders...(sorry slightly too much red wine and staying up too late!)
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

    So your options are :

    1. Pay Cap 1 lots more in interest in order to borrow more money from them and pay it back with lots more interest or

    2. Freeze the interest at the level you're paying at now and not borrow any more from them?

Thats not exactly a hard decision is it. You already have an emergency fund. You really don't need Cap 1.

So question number two is what are Cap 1 and Barclaycards Aprs? Do you have any space left on Barclaycard between your current debt and you credit limit in case of super mega dire emergency? and more to the point do you really need this extra safety net? How about putting half of your new job income towards debts and half to your emergency pot after all its money you wouldn't have had available last month.

Virtual hugs may help along with a long walk around the park stomping in piles of leaves with a huge flask of hot chocolate followed by a brief play on the swing whilst the local 5 year olds stare at you like you've gone mental.

    Morning guys,

hello & welcome makeup - always good to have a new friend on the thread :D
What a brilliant idea about the 'company dog' :rotfl: never thought of that  . There's greyhound rescue place nearby & they're always happy to have walkers for doggies so plan on doing that. DD is the driving force behind this idea but have to be honest she looked a bit glum when at 7.30 yesterday morning it was howling, pouring & freezing all at the same time & I pointed out that we'd have to be out in it  . I like the idea of a dog but think a cat would be far more suitable as they take themselves for a walk when it suits them, deal with their own business & rarely bark or smell. Yeh, that's much more suited to me  .

Moo2 - The usual common sense I have come to expect from you :D . Inititally the plan was to clear Cap one ( 11 % apr) & then transfer balance from Barc ( 29  % apr). It sounds silly BUT I would have saved loads of interest like that & kept the lower interest rate card for emergencies. However, I now agree that there really was only the 1 option since Cap One got greedy. I actually have nearly £1500 'spare' on the Barc & having considered this I reckon that with that interest rate I'm probably better off keeping it as it would have to be a life & death emergency for me to consider using it  .

I already have about £300 in the emergency/savings/holiday fund & the plan is to now only pay £100 to Cap One each month ( minimum of £70 but cant bear to only pay that ) & now pay £60 each week to Barc + the extra from new job. Even without the extra job I worked out ( after much wine so may be wrong) that I can get Barc down to £500 approx by the end of this year ( as long as I remain employed & on current wages).

The savings/emergency/holiday will be funded by child benefit (£80 every 4 weeks). And in the case of BIG emergency ( such as car like last year) there is always the old fail safe ; Dad :o .

I'm pretty organized now & 'religiously' put money away each week for mot, tax, spares& service, DD's hobbies, presents, dentist & optician .

So... you're right I dont 'need' a credit card, but I still want to pay them off without incurring adverse rating, & have woken up this mroning with new zeal & motivation & actually a bit of relief that I wont have the temptation to use CC again.

thanks all for your input & listening to me waffle, rant & moan :A Together, I will get there ;)

Gotta go get dressed & collect my new chest of drawers now :j

    bye for now
    love you all

    Hey Lula

All sounds like you have it sorted out! Would be amazing to get Barc under £500 by end of yr!

I hope your chest of drawers collection goes well. So exciting to have something new!

Moo2Moo - I have a quick question (sorry for thread hijack Lula) - earlier you said you made about £20 off Music Magpie - was that for a lot of CD's?? I've gone through them but only got about 25p per CD, I figured something better than nothing??? I think one of mine went for 50p and lots of them they didn't want!

Nice to see you're back and feeling positive Lula.

Makeup - Music Magpie only wanted to pay you 50p because you have taste! If on the other hand you have truly wierd CDs of "what the heck was I thinking variety they'd pay significantly more wonga. I did donate £7.50 to a charity shop sale in order to prove my theory making £1.25 profit and leaving me with four to E-bay. Robbie Williams? Sorry no too many of them. Oprah Hannoy - Bach to Offenbach (a not so famous chellist) £3. Barry White - the unlimited love collection £2.75. Unknown artists - more piano moods £2.50. So there you have it. The solution appears to be CDs from the 80s as purchased by your parents. The good news is that the ones Music Magpie don't want are eactly the type that sell on Play.com or E-bay.

Tea - hope you're enjoying spending the time with your family. Its rather quiet on here without you though.

    Good evening all

I had so much fun with my new chest yesterday & have reorganized the furniture in my room, cleared out the wardrobe & added a few bits to the charity shop bag :D .

The o/f came over to help remove the chest from my car & I managed to offload half the funeral pyre from under my bed onto him as he has a real fire at home - lucky thing. It was quite amusing having him there while I sorted through clothes too as there were a couple of items he declared 'ghastly' :o . He also questioned my need for 3 inch heeled gold sandals in this climate & with my social life :(. Have to say I agree & I dont even remember buying them but they are pretty damn fab & as yet unworn so they stay  :D .

Today was a NSD :j so I only have 5 to get & am cutting it very fine but remain optimistic. Went to visit my grandmother & had yummy tea & chocolate cake, then popped in to see Dad on the way home & had more tea & chocolate cake :o ... no wonder I cant lose weight. Oh yes & we made Twinks hobnobs yesterday too so the quicker I start this new 'job' the better I think  .

I completely dont give a toss about the CapOne situation now & just focused on clearing the debt one way or another so just waiting for tax credits to go into my account & then I'll make the first of many weekly payments to Barc.
I'm not going to stress about making the huge overpayment as I think I need to keep the emergency & savings topped up now.

Right, going to see what else is going on now so thanks to all for keeping me company ( hijacks welcome makeup & Moo2 is officially recognised as being the fount of all knowledge on the most random selection of subjects :D )

    bye for now

Gold shoes are the best, they go with everything and always look fab! I have a pair and wear them loads... (well loads implies I'm out all the time at glam events....so maybe once in a while would be more accurate!)

Thanks Moo2 - I'll have to dig out more of my old cd's and see if I have anything more arcane!
