Not the answer I was looking for ;D
I did get a feeling that was the case when I read the thread before posting.
But is saving £80 pa worth the hassle.
That is the question.
I may just leave it till I return to UK and see if they've improved. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Don't do it!!!!!
I attempted to close my account with Scottish Pants last year when I moved into rented accommodation which had a different supplier.
I had registered for there online account which as previous posters have said was dodgy at the best of times. I managed to enter my final meter readings on the site which were accepted but the final bills i got were wrong (too low in fact). So I called them repeatedly with the meter readings and each time they said it would be sorted but it never was. Each time they said the system hadn't updated but once i got them to read out the numbers on the screen before I said anything so I knew they had the correct numbers.
Still nothing happened so I wrote to watchdog and Energywatch (the energy ombuds persons) and told SP I had done this. In this e-mail to SP I said I was charging THEM for my time and phone calls and if they didn't pay I'd start charging them interest!! I gave them all my contcat details and asked that they phone me to sort things out bu tnever did. I got a standard e-mail saying they would respond in the industry standard 10 days. On the 10th day I did get a letter which apologised for the hassle with some made up excuses but saying they would write off the amounts that I owed them for the hassle (wasn't actually that much only £35 ish) but didn't say anything about the money I had billed them for!!
The enclosed hand prepared bill was still wrong but the electronic bills which appeared the next day were correct!!!!. In all it took a good couple of months to sort out, literally hours spent on the phone and e-mail, and they had my correct meter readings from day 1.
NEVER NEVER NEVER will I go anywhere near scottish power again.

??? ??? ??? ??? ???
I've added to this thread on many occassions as i can't get my online account up and running.
Over the past month I have (again) spoken to 3 different people who have promised to get me online within a day or two.
Still nothing has happened.
Just received an estimated bill, and like the last bill is to low.
I despair of SP ever getting this right and will now consider switching back.
MR ANGRY HAS NOW HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

What a relief this site is to me! I have just had a chap trying to interest me in Scottish Power (I was with them about 2 years ago and they were fine then before I switched company). He was SOOOOOO persistent even though I said I was not interested in switching - wanted to see a recent bill from current supplier etc. I resisted and then thought must check out the website. Having read what has gone on before on this subject I am so glad that I was strong enough to say no. Hope the neighbours will be!! :-/0

Well door-to-door selling of any kind is scum; asking to hand over your bills (your private property) is outrageous and I didn't know SP engaged in those tactics. But I believe all the utility companies do
However I would like to put a positive word in for SP. I switched after reading this site and so went in forewarned (and thus forearmed!). I used the switch+give website and got my cashback. Also checked the tariffs in a spreadsheet and verified them myself. SP are the cheapest for me and I'll save a lot of money which I really need.
I pre-empted the problem with online registration by doing it during the switch process after I'd received a letter from SP. This meant I was on the online tariffs from day 1. Various "corrections" have had to be done manually at their end (eg the site hates not knowing my telephone number, and no-one from SP will ever know it). The end result is that after several phone calls (on their 0800 number, then ask to be put through to the online Customer Services people - this is free), I'm home and dry.
I'm still within my first month and the DD is set up and working, I'm on the correct online tariff, I can enter my meter readings and it works, and the account balance is definitely correct. It's been a bit of hassle for me but definitely worth it for the £140 per year I will save.
Many thanks to the posts here; after reading them I knew that badgering SP with any issues as early as possible to get it all correct was the best way. I was polite and persistent with them and got it sorted. Now that's over, the humans at SP don't need to be involved in my account so nothing can mess it up (touch wood)! Moneysaving is about saving money, not going for the easiest deal!0 -
i got stopped by a scottish power rep i the street who showed me a uswitch print out stating that they were the cheapest in the country. when i questioned the rep about not knowing my postcode or annual consumption he said it was the same for everyone. i feel sorry for anyone who has signed up to them in this way.Beware the green?0
