The one and only time I managed to make me and MrS sick from food is with leek and potato soup:D It was dodgy milk wot done it at ours.
However I did notice that you cooked it in the SC for the first time - it could be that the slow cooker isn't getting hot enough for flavours to develop? Certainly worth investigating if it's a recipe that you've made successfully before.0 -
How frustrating. Just wondering if the original chicken was cooked with a whole lemon or orange stuffed in it? If so the skin of the fruit can sometimes leave a bitter taste in the stock? Not suggesting that you have done this, but I once wizzed up a load of soup forgetting to take the bay leaf out... all my hard work down the drain, literally!Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.0 -
No, the original chicken was cooked on a few carrots and onions - nothing more.
Anyway, DS came home and liked it but said its not like my normal one (I don't use a recipe but have been making it for 18 years!!!)
Very weird... a mystery0 -
Hi Frugal
It's hard to say - sometimes a slow cooker does change the taste of food. I'm trying to imagine how bitter soup would taste if that makes sense!
I'll leave this to see what responses you get and merge it with the soup problems thread later

Did you eat it straight out of the slow cooker, or did you reheat it later? If so, did you use an aluminium pan or any aluminium utensils?0
-
Nope it was straight from the SC0
-
Did you use a lot of very dark coarser green leaf from the top of the leeks? I believe that can exude a bitter taste.0
-
BRONNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you have cracked it. I have never used the dark green bits before but trying to be more OS and use everything, when I saw all the green tops I was going to throw out, I decided to give them a good wash and chop small, and bung 'em in!
Thank you! I know not to do that again!!!0
