Being made to go out for food after work

All this talk of discrimination in many of the posts is exactly what is wrong with this country!!
Life is too short to spend it obsessing about your weight. ONE slice of pizza will not make you fat. Everything in moderation... If you're that worried, pile your plate with lettuce and cucumber. People will think you're eating, but it contains virtually no calories. Or jog home!
It's JUST a pizza, and the boss probably thinks they're doing something nice for everyone.
No, they can't force you to go, but you might surprise yourself and actually have fun.
Who cares if they're not paying you?? The pizza's free (saves cooking evening meal), and a job isn't just about an hourly rate.
Apologies if I'm wrong, but you give me the impression that you seem to the think this company owes you a living. I personally would not employ someone with an attitude like yours, and by telling your boss that you do not wish to go, without even having a genuine reason why, you come across as whiney and rather pathetic.
When I am working i.e being paid to do my actual job I think I have a pretty good attitude towards it. I work hard and always give 100%. Just because I disagree with giving up my free time to discuss work does not mean I'm a bad employee.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I've got a trip to Boston next week - i'll be loosing 1 1/2 days of a weekend and 4 evenings of my own time. Slightly tempted to ask for a day in lieu for that one. I'd never 'kick up a fuss' about it though
The manager decided to do it at work and people could order in pizza. That wasn't my decision.
I'm assuming you're salaried paid. Your job is probably very different to mine and I'm guessing these trips are part of the job and mentioned in your contract.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Yup, salaried. Travel is mentioned in my contract, but not the use of my own free time, and it's not supposed to be international either.
Being salaried is worse. I have no formal rules on overtime or time in lieu. There's no bonus scheme. I can be asked to work weekend without any extra pay. Hell, if someone paid me by the hour, it'd be great. After all, i have to fill in a timesheet every week. I get no more pay if I fill in 40 hour or 45. If I work 45 hours one week, i can't suddenly work 35 the next so it averages out.
I've also worked hourly paid jobs, and no, i never went home on the dot or came in exactly on time.. that sort of rigidity just isn't helpful.0 -
I said in aprevious post that I have done that bit extra in the past and it's never been appreciated. A thank you goes a long way. Maybe if management was different I wouldn't have hesitated about staying behind.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I hardly think you can call having a meal bought for you while you have a talk about work being "walked over" . Get a grip - this is what work's like - being flexible, and showing willing.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
