Hi George
Good to see the Figure coming down! hang in there

It does make me wonder what some of these banks are playing at. Presumably they'll know about the gambling because of the statements, and yet they've increased your limit to something that if you hit difficulties you'd never be able to pay back. I know at the moment it's helping you, but if you hadn't stopped the gambling think what position that could have put you in.
And some people still try to stick up for the banks!
But anyway, back on topic, well done for getting your debt down, you're doing really well.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Time for another update - i'll try to remember everything.
Spoke to my dad about my debt strategy - he knew about the original 24k so when i said i now had 24k to pay off, he didn't really listen and though my "wobble" cost another 24k which is why he thought there was no way i could be repaying it all when i said i thought i had it covered. He's also reduced my rent by £30 so i'll be able to buy some pressies at Christmas now
He had a look at a few of the posts on the start of this thread, but i forgot i had mentioned my brother when he was reading it. I told him about what had happened and nothing was happening, but he said that when he had spoken to my brother on the phone a few days earlier, he could sense that there was something wrong. I'm hoping it was just a new job move that he's doing but you never know with my brother - i've lost track of the amount of money he owes me and the number of times he's said he'll pay me back. (There was no CCA though and it's probably statute barred now :rotfl: )
What else, right - i contacted RBS and got a 3.9% BT offer. Couldn't get them to budge even when i was put through to card closures - might actually be a little dodgy doing it that way so will be grateful for whatever i'm offered nowI had contacted RBS about 10 days ago - just to check what the APR was and if they had any BT offers on. 13.9% APR (which is pretty damn good i thought) but no BT offers, so they suggested i call back in a few days. Came home today and there was a letter from RBS offerring 3.9% for 6 months lol
Just need to work out how much i need to keep in my account now - SO's come off at the beginning of the month and i usually pay my creditcards around now, DD for Virgin is about the 16th and the end of the month the loan payment goes out - then i need to work out when my train ticket will need renewed.
Looks like i'm on track though so only about another 4 years... :rotfl:
(oh yes, and HBOS increased my CC limit by 1000)
Hope everyone's keeping ok.

Hi George, i was just being nosy at your diary after seeing loads of your really good advice for a while now. You always seem to know what to do when someone posts with an urgent problem. I cant imagine how difficult it must be to get away from an addiction. Thanks for the support guys.
I know there is more i could be doing and should be more proactive. Just can't get motivated and should be making more of an effort. It's good to see things moving in the right direction but it's just not fast enough lol.
I used to run in sand so i know this feeling. Just need to keep pushing and focus on the end result - not what's slowing me down. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Just a quick update.
Wasn't too well last month - caught a virus when i was looking after my neices. At least i was ill mostly during my holiday rather than taking too much time off work. They're already making people redundant so i'm also spending less time on the forum while at work (or trying to).
Made minimum payments to all but the HBos account wich is 7.92% LOB. Overpayed by about £75 - could probably have done more, but i'll wait until after Christmas and see if there's anything else i need to buy first. I usually wear clothes until they're falling apart.
Nothing else to report - still not gambling and haven't been tempted to.
Now under £23k so it's good to see the total dropping.
Take care everyone.

I am officially p'd off.
Still hadn't shaken that virus (or caught another one) and was off work again with more cold like symptoms. Waited another few days more than usual to make payments towards the cards and thought i may have cut it a bit too close for the RBS account as it supposedley takes 3-5 working days to clear. I made the payments on either 10th or 11th and there is still nothing showing for the RBS account.
I'm going to make another payment towards the account and ask for a removal of the late payment fee which has shown up. All the other payments i made have gone through, but nothing for this. Really annoyed at this.
I'm going to try to transfer to the LTSB card early with hopefully 0% for 6 months then i'll transfer back to the RBS and BOS cards after that if i can. Looks like i'm going to have to set up DD payments for the accounts after all. Just wanted to get the payments all done at the same time so i knew where i was but I'm not going to rely on online banking again if it's as annoying as this to get payments made.
Managed to pay £250 towards the HBOS and was quite happy but this late payment has really annoyed me. Going to go and make another payment to RBS and hopefully they get this one. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Debt now £21,962
Just updated again as the loan has now come off the account. Have a little more news too.
While everything seems to be going in the right direction, i may have just added £2k to my debt. Brother was down just after Christmas and asked if i could BT funds to his account to cover his expenses. He says he'll be able to repay me when he gets paid in January, but as we have a history of him borrowing money and not paying it back, not sure how this will turn out. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt this time as he has had to travel to far flung places overseas for his new job.
This means the LTSB now has £2k balance on it so i can't use it for transfers if i need to. I got the £12 charge refunded from RBS so hopefully i'll still have the same interest rate. Haven't had anything saying any different - even the statement i got through still had the promotional rate on it so here's hoping.
I got an email from the national lottery today asking "what's your excuse for not playing more online?".
In the second before i thought "because i'm addicted to gambling you cretins" i got a rush of emotions thinking what i might be able to do if i won money, what could i play? scratchcards, do they have other games? It only took a second for all that to happen but i'm so disappointed and annoyed that the "what if's" even entered my mind. There was a physical tingle or chill when it happened. I know it's good that i dismissed it straight away, but that danger is still there and this only shows how easily it could sneak up.
I'll be away for a few days with my folks visiting bro over New years, so hope everyone has a good one.
Don't do anything i wouldn't do:rotfl:
