Well done Riq - did you email customer support and ask them to close your account? You were strong enough to resist this time, but you don't need that kind of temptation. Best to remove it altogether. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

no i havent because i have a season long bet with them (chelsea, derby, leeds, shrewsbury and wrexham) i put this on a few weeks back. but im going to close my account with 2 other bookmakers in the next few days.
whats good now is that i havent got access to any credit cards. the ones ive used in the past are maxed out . so i havent got accesss to money (which is a good thing)
just thought, am i making excuses ?0 -
Yup
Hate to say it but as you can see from my signature, I gambled, lost got it sorted but didn't close 1 account and because the card nubers are retained by the site it was so easy to just spend again. Add 9.6k then i realise i should have closed the account outright.
You might be able to restrict the amount you can bet on that account - say $1 per event? After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

My OH has a limit of $100 per week, that way (he says) as long as I'm vigilant and find out in time I can stop him getting too far in (since it's my bank account he has registered with it). So maybe a limit is a good idea for you like George says?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

rumbled!!! seriously, im dead set on not even having a low stake maximum. its abstinence for me.
i turned down a raffle ticket the other day and gave a donation instead. i cant do it, im an all or nothing person. so betting low stakes isnt an option.
the card numbers retained on the sites are now useless as the cards and accounts are useless , so i couldnt use them even if i wanted.
best wishes0 -
Just trying to cover al the bases Riq.
I refuse to play the lottery but i still lost more money on the betting site. This way you wouldn't have a choice but to abstain. Glad you're confident that it isn't going to be an issue.
I might not be posting much for a few days.
Gran died this afternoon. Just finished crying like a bairn. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

You can 'self exclude' yourself from any bookmakers site.
Just look in the 'responsible gambling' section (usually under the 'help' heading).
If you email customers services first, they should confirm that your bet will still stand.
Most of them give a standard '6 months' exclusion option, but you can increase this via customer services.
Your details will be suspended and you will not be able to place a bet even if you wanted to.
In answer to your question "Am I making excuses", the answer is YES.
Sorry to sound harsh but I have been there and got the t-shirt many years ago. Until I 'self excluded' I would keep going back.
I have not had a bet for 3 years now and have no intention of doing so (not least because I would have to spend about a week trawling the internet for a bookie I am not excluded from :rotfl: )
Look on the bright side....I estimate my gambling losses at over 200K
Good luck and please take the steps that 'deep down' you know must be done.0 -
B2B1 - cheers for that, i said it slightly tongue in cheek. i have no intention of doing it again too. i have excluded myself from high st bookies and need to do so on line. just been a bit lazy. thanks for the info regarding standing bets also.
so good so far. 3 weeks and counting.0 -
Hi George, just wanted to add my support. I have seen your posts and think you offer excellent advice, i do hope you can crack this.
The weird thing is that when you are a whizz at numbers it seems to hit you harder..if that makes sense. When i was an undergrad, i worked with a psychiatrist who was trying to work out a sytsem whereby if the gambler won all the time then he/she would lose the 'buzz' of gambling. My job was to look at the tipsters predictions in the papers and see how manytimes they were right. It was just a theory of his and i would have liked to understand more about it all.
Any way after all that i do hope you suceed in this.

Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
