Will try to get into the habit of doing the exercises. I'm not doing much and need to do alot more - will try going for walks, even just to get out of the house for 10 minutes.
I have been thinking about getting my own place for a while - just can't afford it. I'd rather buy than rent in part because of all the stories i read here about landlords not giving back deposits, not sorting things, costs of having to move and this can increase when the landlord decides they want to see or redecorate and you need to move again shortly after moving in. I think it is more for the feeling of security - that i would be in control and responsible for everything. I'm 35 and living with my folks - i need to do something other than wait for them to move into an old folks home.
Edinburgh is quite expensive, but i believe that there are some hotels that are looking to do budget rooms. EasyHotel is just under £60 but others may try to move into that area soon too.
I don't eat shredded wheat and thanks for the offer of the mortgage Beanie, but... naah.
Hope you're feeling better soon SW.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

George just think of how much you have raised in such a short period of time while you have been here. You can do it and you will but only after you have your health and well being back (we insist on you putting you first). We will be cheering you along every step of the way.
PS rather happy that you dont eat Shredded Wheat so far Aesop is the only nice person that does!!!

Nice to see you posting again GeorgeBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

So glad I am not the only 35 year old living with folks! its a bit embarrassing isn't it and I know we both have good reasons but I find I can never explain without telling people my life story and then I feel awkward and like I have overshared which adds to the geek living with Mum - who I love but you get the idea!
How much would you need for a deposit in your part of the world? Here I am thinking £20,000 at least. I could rent but agree with you re the security and not wanting the landlord to have constant access - I know they don't exactly have that but when I rented previously that is what it felt like!
I am going to have a month off once I am DF and then start saving...... aiming to have something sorted by the time I am 36!

Good luck Buffy. We will cheer you on too. It is blooming hard work paying for housing costs but i don't regret it. Firewalker says a house is a liability rather than an asset. For me it is somewhere I feel safe. Good on you. I wish you both well, you guys have done so much to pay off the huge amounts so there is no reason why you won't succeed.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220

Interesting article about this in the Indy:
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/house-and-home/property/no-place-like-home-the-generation-who-cant-afford-to-buy-1921781.html
Remember you guys are so much more moneysavvy than people of your age group you can do it. The average age to buy a house is 38 now.
I have students that have been predicted really high A level grades but are not planning to go to university now as they dont want to be in debt. I told them today if I had thought like them and planned to retire at 35 like they have I might have achieved something more with my life.
Life is great though. You can make up your mind about something and determination always pays off. I changed my destiny in so many ways and so what if it took me a little longer than others to realise what i wanted I dont regret it for a second. I am 40 now and realise that in most ways my life is just beginning. I feel more positive about the future - in the past i didn't ever think i would have a future.
Half the battle is knowing what you want. You guys both keep going with your plans for the house ownerships. I have no doubts at all. I know you will succeed.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220
