Everyone I speak to, outside of these forums, don't see any real worry in buying. Everyone pretty much thinks house prices will return to form soon enough, most of them not being able to see how you can go from a massive over-demand of houses to a sudden glut where prices will drop indefinitely.

I kind of agree, I think they will drop to affordable levels and then people will buy when they can.

Chris, people outside of this forum are'nt really that interested or take much notice of the signs I would imagine. In time this will change as the problems hit jo public harder...
  • From what i hear (a member of my family owns an AE) sales are picking up i think people have excepted they are falling but arn't going to put there lives on hold any longer or that some property !!! become within some peoples affordabillity bracket.

Indeed - it was only a few months ago on this forum that talk of ANY drops in house prices or economic troubles ahead was greeted with derision or disbelief. We're ahead of the 'outside world' slightly because people on here tend to take a bit more interest in their financial affairs.

Indeed.. the level of ignorance among some of my work colleagues is quite staggering, The Recession has been on the cards since sub prime became such an issue late last year & is yet to bite hard, Ofcourse buying a home at the moment may be the best option depending on your circumstances, generally speaking tho it would be a very foolish thing to buy into the housing market if you dont have too..but hey, its not my money thankfully ...

Have you ever thought your circle of acquaintances in your area might be of a demographic which doesn't fully weigh up all the factors impinging on house prices and the economy in the same way a much wider platform such as an internet forum can do?

Priceless! Where is my matrix outfit. Are you saying an internet forum are a better judge on house prices in his local area than people in his/her local demographic?

I think Dopester is suggesting that one gets a wider range of views on the internet than is possible from one's circle of 'real world' acquaintances. I think that pretty much goes for everyone and any subject.

It is interesting to hear from the less informed people though, because they make up the mass of people who will be deciding what to do. I am curious to see just how long before sentiment completely turns, when absolutely no one will buy, even though there may be bargains.

I can understand most of these sheeple didn't live through the 70's or the 90's, and don't read much or take much in really - but surely they were all dimly aware of the dot com bubble a few short years ago.
