  • Has anyone actually used one of these to record from a satellite/freeview box? Is the quality really that bad? Magazine reviewers can be extremely fussy.

I'd like to know too richie. I think the PYE dvd recorder from asda maybe better for me as I want to mainly record from Sky. The PYE has RGB input I believe, which is what I'll need.

Bought one of these yesterday !

I can confirm that i have a Sky box connected to the second scart on the DVD recorder.

If I record via the tuner from either normal TV or Sky there is a noticeable amount of picture distortion ( lines that wave from top to bottom of screen ! )

Its like when you used the old VCRs and the TV channels received were close in frequency to the signal the VCR was putting out to the TV. Certainly not that bad but could be annoying. There used to be an rf adjustment on those !

I then tried the source recording from the Satt box rather than through the DVD tuner, with this the Picture Quality was excellent !

Not sure if the other interference can be fixed in any way as you dont always want to record from Sky, you might want to watch sky and record terrestrial channel.

Has anyone else had this or got a fix when recording from the Tuner on this unit !

    Regards Tony
  • Hi,

    Burnt a DVD - R a few day's ago - just got some DVD + RW's, no joy....
Maxell x4 DVD+RW, anyone else having issues burning onto DVD+RW...
    Is this a faulty drive?

Can anyone indicate what media they are using without any issues....?
The Maxell were from Argos ( I know, I was passing! )

    Regards
  • Had one of these for 2 weeks now and can't fault it. Ok - so no RGB input, but that's fine for me. Only use to record occasional TV programmes / films so not bothered about AAA+++ recording quality. At the end of the day, it records better than VHS and it was £60!! 'Nough said...

Strangely enough, I nearly posted the same sort of comment myself earlier. Yes, there's no RGB, but for most people it's perfectly adequate and far better than any VCR.

As well as reading the reviews, you have to bear in mind the cost of this unit - for £68, if you just want one as a VCR replacement, you really can't go wrong.

Can't see any problem, it should work as a straight replacement for a VCR.
