Never cooked one before but Im doing it for our tea and have put in in the oven at 180 with some rosemary, onions and a big glug of old english cider. What do you think? Am I on to a winner or is that a strange thing to do with it? I havent covered it up just left it in a large dish, would it be better covered?0

Did you buy the vacuum packed tesco one?
It's delicious
I cook it long and slow just as it is. (I do take the wrapping off first)

Sounds fab Becky. Cover it if it looks like it's browning too much.0 -
I think it's pork shoulder I buy (not sure).
I either bung in the oven or the slow cooker depending on what's going on.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Well........ thought i had come home with 3 pork chops for tea!!
whilst at the butchers - I asked for 3 "of those chops please" and turned to chat to someone I knew......got other things I needed and paid the bill.
Thought the bag was rather heavy but thought nothing of it........
Laden with bags ( trying to keep out of supermarket and stick to the small shops - another good thread off here) headed off home.
To open the bags - which were inside another bag.... out came three pork shoulder joints instead of chops!!!!!! didnt bother to check the reciept at the time - silly me.
Well I think I have enough meat to last a while: what is the best way to cook? As i usually do chops as there is less waste.
Roast? Slow cook? Any tips welcome.........
Thanks.0 -
Slow roasted pork shoulder is yummy! It has a lot more flavour than leg, but needs slow cooking. If you have a good knife you could make chops from it too.

I'd whack a tin of chopped tomatoes into a slow cooker, brown off some onion, pop in the shoulder add some black pepper and mixed herbs, crumble a veggie stock cube over the meat and stick the slow cooker on for 6 hours or so.
Bet it'll be delicious!Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.
