Wouldn't being so 'drugged' that you lose your memory render you slightly unable to remember your pin number?

Bet this happens a lot and the majority of time, people are too embarrassed to go back and complain but considering the amount involved, it would be madness not to at least try to contest it.

Almost certainly not. Short term memory works on a completely different level to long-term memory (entering your PIN number is instinctual to us in the same way as peeling a banana is to a monkey).

I would agree with this - as described in my post 66.
  • Good luck, do keep us posted!

And don't be embarrassed, everyone makes mistakes every now and then, besides, lap dancing clubs are legal, so you were not doing anything criminal there.

And I don't understand people who suggest that the OP better get tested for AIDS or crabbies...If it was a proper lap dancing clubs, even touching is not allowed let alone nookie. Even if it was, I am sure that condoms would have been used, so I think that there is no need to worry OP unneccessarilly.

Anyway, scams definitelly happen, 4 times the same amount does sound a bit sus. Get to the bottom of this, and again, keep us posted.

i love the fact that everyone thinks this guy MUST have been scammed, and i am assuming this is based on the fact that this establishment focuses on male entertainment.
Where as if gentleman had got drunk and spent £4k in somewhere like the hilton hotel bar then im sure people would be suggesting it was heis own fault and that next time he goes out he should leave the credit card at home!

One thing that worries me is , if two of the transactions were made after the clubs licenesd hours why was this intoxicated person allowed to stay on the premises and why did the club risk losing their licence by putting the reciepts in this gentlemans pocket. or did they throw him out send him home then make the transactions because they had recorded the pin and swiped the card, driven to this guys home let themseleves in put the reciepts in his pocket and left all before he get up !

this gentleman spent the money no crime has been commited other than the fact the clubs prices are obviousley criminal .

Moral of the story : DONT GET SO DRUNK YOUR NOT IN CONTROL !

On the criminal front: That said, I'm going to ask for the CCTV footage, which will hopefully demonstrate that I was intoxicated. (I can't imagine they will show me looking sober, though obviously my own recall is virtually nil.) If they claim to have lost the footage, then that will seem suspicious, but I'll have made the request at least which may help my cause.

I've since checked with the local authority, and the last 2 payments were definitely after the club's licensing hours, so that may also give me a little leverage.

Have decided to instruct a solicitor now, since too much is at stake.

    I'll keep you posted.

Just a word of warning each licensing authority area, has certain regulations regarding CCTV footage some has to be kept for 7 days, some for up to 28 days. If you were to get your solicitor to ask for the CCTV, they could "delay" it, until the "time is up". The best thing is to report a "crime" to the police, then they can turn up at anytime day or night and request CCTV footage.

Think you will get away with the transactions "after time", as they are in serious breach of licensing conditions if selling out of hours. The only way they will get around that is by saying you run up a tab and left without paying and as you had left your card for security they put it through. But as the pin number was keyed it shows you were "still in the premises".

Have you cancelled your card, card cloning is huge in dodgy pubs and clubs...

I take it you've never been drugged before? Your memory is impaired regardless when you are under the influence of hypnotics. Don't take my word for it - read the side effects on Rohypnol (the most common drug used to spike drinks).
  • Is it a "chain" of lap dancing clubs or a privately owned one?

If a chain speak to their head office, they will not need the bad publicity..

    Also just a thought...

Does your friend visit this club often?

Did he have an outstanding "extras" bill that needed paying???

    Were you set up?
  • I had to purchase 4 first class train tickets once for work purposes and I used my credit card (I was going to claim the money back from work). As these transactions were out of my usual spending pattern, the bank blocked them going through and put a block on my card until I had spoken to them to personally verify the transaction.

Have you spoken to your credit card fraud department to find out why they allowed these transactions to go through? I would have thought that they would have put a block on the card once the first transaction had gone through at least! £4k is an awful lot of money to spend on one card on one night in one establishment! Could it be that your credit card company was negligent in allowing these transactions to go through? Might be worth a shot......

If £4k was able to be put on your card in one night can I ask what the overall credit limit is on the card?
