Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 24 August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all!
Yes, I have been to sleep - though not for long admittedly. The OH (despite his swollen glands and sore throat) went to work tonight and got in about 45 mins ago. Normally I sleep through it but not tonight, so as I was awake, I thought I would get up and get busy on here until I feel tired again. (Which shouldn't take long!!)
Good news is that the OH is now sleeping like a baby. He could sleep standing up I swear - soon as he closes his eyes he is gone! The cat is sat on his back purring away.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend, I am longing to get out into the garden and check up on the tomatoes and peppers. I read that if you put banana skins at the base of the plants it will help speed up the ripening, so I am going to try that this weekend and as a bonus make banana flapjacks!
Princess, Mioliere and everyone who had a bad nights sleep - hope you managed to sleep better tonight
Penny, hope you are feeling less stressed honey *hugs*
*Hugs* to anyone who wants one and congratulations to anyone celebrating a birthday today.

Morning MSD and all who follow,
Blugh, it's raining, it's windy and it's looking like mid winter out there this morning.......I don't normally do this early on a sunday but the rain hammering against the window woke me up.....then I needed tea.....cats needed feeding and so on and so on.......
Was really hoping to get out and about today and take the kids to the zoo......why is it every time we make plans, it rains! grrrrrr  Ah well will have to think of something else to do.
The house is looking sickeningly tidy (thanks to the weather) and all the washing and ironing is up to date, all the kids school stuff is sorted and ready for next week so I guess I could attack the craft projects I've been putting off.
DH and DD1 went out to dinner with MIL yesterday - DD2 wasn't feeling great so I stayed behind with her....MIL sent back £40 (she was paying for the meal) so that DD2 and I could treat ourselves ........will come in very handy this month with the wage shortage...she's a star!
Dinner today is roast pork and all the trimmings (got a huge joint last week and cut it into 3 before cooking - much more economical). Might make some cakes with DD's if they can tear themselves away from the computer.
Hope you all have a great day."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Hello Possums,
Been a glorious weekend over here weather wise. Our street is getting bitumened finally and work starts tomorrow. They did all the surveying work last week. It will probably be a bit of a pain for the next few weeks but a lot less dust in the long run. Had a really relaxing day today which translates to doing nothing.DH picked more carrots  so will have to blanch them sometime during the week.
I started sewing a skirt which I cut too small. So I've had to add bits to the side seams. Not a good look. Another item relegated to the *house*.It's all so very frustrating. I paid our deposit for the cruise in Feb so that's something nice to look forward to. Anyway hope you all have a lovely day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
CM Welcome back.
Twink DSis goes to Dr's tomorrow to get results of chol tests.
Smoky I'm so glad you love the blankets. Can't wait to see your garden.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
hello everyone. sun is peeking through blinds here, but yet again it's been raining. when will this ever end. yesterday was sunny during the day but my garden is so marshy it will take more than a few hours of sunshine to dry out,. the weeds are waist high in bits
hopefully will be able to get out there soon.
today planning to watch the closing ceremony of the olympics. need to sort out the ironing pile and will have to pop to shops later to get the bits and bobs I forgot yesterday. poor hound has no meat, and I have no coffee left...so its a definite chore.
tonight we are having beef casserole done in slow cooker, which will be easy as we are all eating at different times.
have a lovely day!x x x0 -
morning all
(((hugs))) to all that need/want them.
pooky you're right it does look loke winter its 'chucking 'it down at the moment. so fed up we have a new BBQ that we have never used.
my mum, stepdad, SIL and DB are coming for lunch. got a huge joint of pork . need to tidy up as the house looks a mess (trying to dry washing and its all over the house)
hope everyone has a great day xx0 -
morning all
the sun is shining here was nice yesterday too, seem to have had quite a good summer up here all in all but the nights are drawing in now
plan to clean round, tidy the garden and might pop to uncles before he goes in tonight for his op tomorrow
had ds1 up yesterday, might be back today as he plans to go mountain biking nearby
Aussie good luck to your dsis for tomorrow
hugs to all that need one xx0 -
Morning all,
murky & wet here too - hope it brightens up later.
Welcome back churchmouse
MS-Diva, glad you (and OH) both got some sleep, and hope all those others not sleeping well also had a better night.
Aussie, good luck to you sis. What a shame about the skirt - I saw someone wearing one the other week that looked like it was made of several 6inch wide strips, looked really effective. Can you "adjust" it so it looks like it was meant to be like that instead? How's the housebuying going for YS?
Pooky/Sistercas - roast pork... mmmmm..... might have to nip up to Mr T's when it opens, I really fancy a roast now & all DD's are home today. Might see if Mum wants to come down for some too.
Today is finishing off sorting the hall cupboard. Youngest DD has done her bedroom - only 2 sacks of rubbish & 1 of clothes that are no good.... At least we can see what she has/hasn't got now. I was going to order her & me some cheap wardrobes from Ikea (£49 each) but their delivery charge has shot up from £35 to £60!!!!!!!!!!! I think that's a ridiculous leap - but am torn as they are nice wardrobes (oldest DD has one) and even with the delivery charge it still works out cheaper than anywhere else. Will um & ah through today & see how I feel later.
((((((((((((hugs))))))))))) for all thsoe needing them.

Good morning all! Wet, windy and looking more like October here.
Moneysavingdiva - I hope your DH gets better soon - I wonder if he's got glandular fever?
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Beth and her DBs, Essex-girl's Dad and Candygirl's Dad and all who are in need today.
DS1 came over with the grandchildren yesterday and we had a lovely afternoon with them all, and in the evening DS2 and DIL - both as brown as berries and looking so contented, came round to show us piccies of their honeymoon. They had a wonderful time and managed to visit Gibralter which they really enjoyed. I sat back after they had all gone and had that warm maternal glow you get knowing your precious loved ones are safe and happy! Not even today's rain has dampened that feeling!
We have been invited out to a pub lunch with our very good friends today so I'm really looking forward to that, and then we have roast breast of lamb tonight done in the Remoska which was such a success last time. At the moment, it's cooking my bread - what would I do without it?
I'm going to reorganise my office this morning (while DH is handy to move the filing cabinet for me) I've worked out a way of gaining more desk space which is badly needed.
Anyway, off for a cup of coffee after my porridge and toast breakfast - see you all later and I hope you all have a great Sunday.

Morning all,
It's lovely and sunny here, hardly any clouds in the sky, enjoyed pottering in the garden. All garden furniture has been weatherproofed ready to store but think we'll leave it out and use it whilst we can.
Utility and all kitchen cupboards cleaned and sorted. I got DH to fix some small hooks on the inside side panel of 1 of the cupboards to hang all the mugs on, saved so much space. DH will tile the utility and I will do grouting tomorrow.
Also need to go to Laura Ashley as there is a sale, 25% off the chair I want, I knew if I waited long enough the price would drop.
Got a YS joint of organic beef, was £8 79 down to £3 29 from Morries for dinner. I have started shopping at 5pm as that's when the prices are slashed on fresh foods, I've made some big savings and now will not pay full price for meat, fish, F&V or bread.
DD2 popped in and admired the utility and spotted the carrier bag holder I made, guess who would like one?
SMOKEY, I'm so pleased the blankets are a comfort to the Lo's and you, we hoped they would be. Look forward to your pics. x
Hope it's a good BH for all.0 -
Morning all,
I am feeling rubbish today - don't know whether it's just life getting on top of me, the weather or what, I just feel really down. I am supposed to be going out for a few drinks later with the guys from work, but I have had so much grief about it I really don't feel like it now ( Are you seeing X?) etc. Petty b!tching like a bunch of schoolgirls.
So, based on that, I think I will just potter about. Do a bit of ironing, bit of browsing, bit of Ebaying etc.
I have started reading Thrifty Ways, and all the URLs in it are out of date!
Hope everyone has a good day :beer:We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Morning all ((((hugs)))) to those that need them or want them!
It's quiet here, I like quietI baked muffins last night and put nearly all of them in the freezer for little treats. Otherwise DS will eat them. Grey and miserable outside though, I'm crossing my fingers for an Indian summer next month.
Blairweech - chin up hon! If you think you're not going to enjoy yourself there are two ways to look at it. Stay home, or go just to spite them. (((hugs))) to you.
