That's the whole point though - ebay was designed specifically for people to sell their unwanted items online. It was an auction site for the ordinary punter to make a few quid. In the last few years it has become money motivated. This will chase ordinary sellers off the site. E-bay has completely betrayed its own principles and community values.

I think they will regret this in the long-term when business suffers and sales drop.

Its always been a business, businesses are money motivated, all of them, if they're not, they're a bad business!

So when Ebay started it was a tiny business with a few people selling a bit of tat, now its much more than that and they're trying to evolve it. They haven't put a stop on anyone starting another small site selling tat, if anything they're encouraging it.

A big business sadly can't have too many principles or community values. If Ebay had remained as they once insisted they were 'just a venue' then they wouldn't have had to worry about all the extra costs involved in that. Like most businesses they're going to suffer from global financial issues, and there are an increasing band of disgruntled customers, but a lot of sellers haven't yet noticed a significant downturn in sales or customers. It is still the best and most economically viable place for me to sell.
