  • Supermarket: Netto (my favourite shop)
My top things to buy are: ground coffee, hot chocolate (tons better than thin Cadbury's stuff), prosciuttio ham, kitchen rolls, lots of their one-off electrical stuff is brilliant
My top things to avoid are: the cheaper toilet rolls, bits of paper roll up and stick to your nether regions :o(
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!
  • Supermarket: Lidl

Do buy: Butter (the one in the white wrapper with lake scene). Just as good as another well-known brand, yet about half the price.

    Apple juice
    Japanese rice crackers
    Chocolate raisins (yummy)
    Oxtail soup
    Yoghurt drinks
    Marzipan chocolate
    face cleansing pads

    I would say:

    Raspberry jaffa cakes
Dark chocolate husband loves Lindt 74% and this one is only about 50p
    And the coffee chocolate

Now tomorrow I am going to end up having to go to lidl's and it is all you horrible peoples fault.

  • LIDL/ALDI

definately worth trying most things once, and it's all a matter of taste- I like Lidl Baked beans myself !! cheese straw/nibbles, big hit and their christmassy biscuits, cake etc are always great.
Mum bought a christmas cake from aldi £2.49, lovely, couldn't make it for that price.

Used them first when I was living in germany, not as good stuff over here I found, the baileys substitue was £3 a bottle over there and much nicer.

Would recommend them to anyone, and as for the snob value - you should see the cars in the carpark of my local shops !!!!!!, no snobs in our town!!!

and ps , the dog loves the Lidl boxed dog biscuits, chews and especially their Ginger nuts !!!!
  • We have a Lidl Regional Distribution Centre ....Oh about 2000 yards from our home and if you are buying Lidl Veg ... use it today otherwise go elsewhere..We see the Euro-40 tonners arrive from all over..however ..a severe warning pay the price and buy branded Baked Beans ...never never eat Lidl baked beans....you have been warned- however Orange Juice in Cartons, or the stuff in jars with bits in is A1, so is any cleaning product.....Dishwashers know the difference and Lidl's are fine ....and their German beer ...if you like it that is -aint bad......but lay off the Baked Beans

The only thing we don't like are baked beans from Lidl.

    Tinned spag bol
    raviolli
    chilli
    curries etc
always go down well with the whole family.

Cheeses, cold meats are great value.

    FLours and coffee are great.

Frozen and fresh veg fantastic prices.

    Puddings mmmmmmmmm.........

cat and dog food, the cats don't like teh cheapo stick to the roof of your mouth stuff, but the rest are good, and teh dogs eat everything.

Nappies are fine, loo rolls good, shampoo, bubble bath, toothpaste, toothbrushes, all good.

Then there's plasters, paracetomol, ibuprofen. Super.

Not to mention herb,s pickles, jams (lovley),

breads great, croissants (lardy !!!!!! here I come).

Why do I go to Morrisons? Lidl's is great, what am I thinking?
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • :-!! Please can we have a lidl nearer than 40 miles! Having said that, always go when visiting the big city.... I call it going on a lidl adventure.. (yes, sad, but I keep taking the tablets)

Best things: So many that have already been mentioned, but also

Vegetable juice: don't drink it, make soup with it: add veg to taste and meatballs, and you have a winner. Much cheaper than buying small tins if you have a family. But the lentil soup is good too.

POTATO salad.........sorry, just salivating there... keeps for ages but still tastes superb. Add Bockwurst chopped up to really live....

And NOBODY (I think) has mentioned the frozen cream slices: have had to try ALL the flavours when I come across them, but they are fantasticvalue... I tend to buy instead of ice creams in the summer - red berry ones, strawberry, orange - but the most recent ones i found were apple.... YUM! Its real sad they never make it home.....;-]

Sesame biscuits, bit like tiny baked bagels - great for nibbles.

Chopped tomatoes: buy them by the trayful, plus passata in cartons - we always add them to dishes, never eat them as a veg, so find them great value.

Love the sangria, but don't ever treat myself to 4.99 bottle, since I could buy it in lidl in France for less than a euro.. somehow I balk at the difference! but Italian Primasecca, in the blue bottle with the cork and the strange piece of string is lovely!

And yes, all the German christmas things: marzipan dominoes in dark chocolate, and gewurz mandeln in chocolate that tastes of cinnamon. And Easter sweets - my germanfriends easter table is always covered with lots of little sweets - you can get them at lidl: look lovely, and a change from big chocolate ones....

Sorry, I feel a trip coming on......

Our Aldi has now started to take credit cards ( was only cash/debit cards before).
  • Lidl
The Parmasana dried Pasta and sauce type things are great! They are made with water not milk and are brilliant to have on standby in the cupboards. Quite often they have prevented my teenage son from fainting from starvation in between big meals and sandwiches. Only 55p each! There is a red tomato type one my daughter likes but I am afraid only i eat the FUNGHI version. The children just wont believe it is mushroom flavour not fungus.
Never ever ever have the frozen veg spring rolls. Gag.
